In this video, I'm taking us all down lecture lane. Don't forget to vote! No. Matter. What.
And, thank you to everyone who participated in "Halloween costume word association" on Twitter over the weekend! I received hundreds of responses, and here's a summary of the reactions for each costume:
Pirate: Both guys and girls had all good things to say about pirates. They're a little dangerous. They look like they might stink, but they don't.
Nurse: Guys seemed to really like the idea of girls as nurses, but girls got a little catty about other girls who wore "naughty nurse" costumes. So maybe you should wear this costume on a Halloween party date, but not to a "girl's night out" costume party.
Joker (from Batman): Think twice before going out as Health Ledger's Joker. The general reaction people had to this costume was sadness.
Bumble Bee: If you're a girl who wants to be something both cute and a little sexy without making other girls all judgmental, a bumble bee might be a good idea. Both guys and girls seemed to love bumble bees, especially their antennae and stingers.
Hippie: Yawn. People found hippies boring.
Cheerleader: Girls were annoyed at former cheerleaders who dressed up as cheerleaders for Halloween. And guys fixated on the skirts.
Superman: The thing people seemed to like most about Superman was his tights. So if you're going to choose this costume, don't do the "shorts instead of tights" cop-out! You're not Superman without tights!
Pimp: Personally, I thought people would be tired of this costume. I am. However, both guys and girls still seemed to have nice things to say about pimps. A lot of people mentioned that they wear warm coats, so maybe that's why? Maybe we want to borrow their pimp coats if we get chilly at the party?
Clown: Just scary, scary, scary. And a little annoying.
Gladiator: According to the results, we think of gladiators kind of like knights in shining armor with less clothes (and greased chests... several people mentioned greased chests.) If you're going for the "I am super macho and want to show off my body" thing, be a greasy-chested gladiator!

In my country (australia) you get fined if you dont vote. I figure if your a democratic society it is your obligation to vote. Yee gads, it takes like two seconds AND that way crazy minorities like the NRA who make all their members vote cant swing the trend.
Secondly - Homous and slices of apple are THE BEST combination ever. It sounds weird but give it a crack.

Brigitte, if noone else has mentioned it to you, and you haven't thought of it: When the Santa Ana's blow, MOISTURIZE!!!!! The S.A. winds suck the moisture out of everything. Everyone has static electricity in their hair, petting a cat or dog gets painful. Looked like you had windburn on your face a little, so protect your great skin!! Aloe vera gel works good....also, give a little extra water to your plants...the snail is on his own...
You should have included a bonus for those of us who already vote early and vote often. For example I have already voted. I am not going to say how many times I have voted. That might incriminte myself and I have constitutional right not to do that. I also have the constitutional right to vote for people who will not try to take away my constitutional rights. Which I did. Remmember half of us already vote regularly and do not need pep talks.

and apparently i totally didn't respond to the word association the way everyone else did... i gave one word answers of what came to my mind. like weed for hippies... and megaphones for cheerleaders.. hah hah... i am lame....

You totally did it right! A lot of people did it that way with one word, and some sent whole phrases, so I just summed up the general feeling that all the reactions got for each costume.
That was probably the least obnoxious "get out and vote!" lecture i've heard this campaign season. well done!
of course i'm going to vote. because my first voting experience was crap (the primaries, where i essentially got told "your vote might not count."), so i need to make up for it by making a difference in this vote. except not really because California is a blue state and so my man Obama will win here anyway. But still.
And I am tooootally feeling your pain over the santa ana winds. they knocked down my avocado tree a few years back, and they're scaring my cats and getting dust all over EVERYTHING as usual this year. Just wait till you start seeing the tumble weeds. they're awesome and can get ridiculously huge. At least where I live anyway (chino hills~~ whee!)

First off, I can't decide if these rediculous picture avatars that ABC gives you to pick from when you make an acount are creepy or just dumbly funny. Apparently I thought the picture of a half-crazed woman threateningly weilding what appears to be an impact wrench was the most amusing.
Secondly, I was in the middle of trying to suffer through the third presidential debate when, thank god, your video popped up on my subscriptions and I had an excuse to turn it off. So congratulations, you interrupted me doing my civic duty to give me a lecture on doing my civic duty; and thankyou.
I used to be one of those people who said that you shouldn't vote (by one of those I mean only). It wasn't a terrible argument actually but I'm not sure it pans out in real life. Now I just vote because it's fun.
Also tell ABC to use better video quality, you're all pixely, sorry to say it but you are.
