Welcome back Brigitte!
Wow, looks like no one watches you here anymore, you used to get tons of comments.
I guess everyone is watching the Youtube, i hear its all the rage Smiling

1st - nice coffee cup. But i recommend one of the bladder buster ones the truckers use.
64 oz of yum.

2nd - pictures everyday.....well 90%....so that'll be roughly 328.5 pictures.
Can't wait to see them all, especially the .5 one. Given your creativity, it should be great Smiling

lastly - i recommend 'sit pretty' for Maddy. Sitting on her back legs, with her two front paws up.
Was fairly easy to teach to my pup and looks quite cute.

Have a loverly weekend.

You can take the girl out of the midwest but you can't take the midwest out of the girl.
Awesome tundra footage - reminds me of the view outside my window Sad

I had some trouble with Firefox as well, but found that if I disabled my Adblock add-on I was able to see the video. If you're still having trouble, you might have security features enable which block ads.

General Question: Why is it that when you go home for an extended period (say, a week or more) you start to go a little crazy? Psychologists say its because we process family with the same parts that we use to self-reflect, meaning we view them as critically as ourselves, but it's got to be more than that. Also, please refer to video #370 Home, Again.

You should teach her to hug! I taught my dog that, if I bend over slightly and open up my arms wide he'll jump up, put his front paws on my waist and turn his head to the side so I can hug him without crushing his face.

Some great dog tricks. Put a little bell by the door, then teach Maddie to ring the bell when she wants to go outside. Also teach her to bark when she wants in instead of scratching on the door. This will save you a lot of scratching on the door. I hung my bell on a hook so my puppy could pull a rope, but once she pulled the bell down and would just shake it when she wanted out, worked just as well.

Teach Maddie to stay in the other room when you are eating. This is of great benefit when you have guests over and don't want your dog to beg for people food. If you already freely feed your dog people food then shame on you.

Teach Maddie to play hide and seek. This works great when you have kids over, it can keep them entertained for hours. This is done by teaching her to stay with a release word. For instance teach her to stay, which is a trick itself, once she will stay even when you leave the room go hide and yell out your release word, like "cupcakes" when you want her to come find you, then she gets a treat when she finds you. My puppy would play this for hours with visiting kids.

I just realized that I think it's mildly humorous that you use a typewriter sound and the courier font for the opening of your video blog. You know, because it's a typewriter. They're like prehistoric in technological terms and that seems more prominent when you feature it on the internet. Yeah.

Brigitte, we could feel your presence here in the midwest. Hope you enjoyed the tundra, we ordered it just for you. I think you should teach Maddy how to surf,,, after all, she is a California girl now, or you could go with the catching the frisbee thing so other dogs don't laugh at her on the beach.

Nice Eskimo footage... seriously, tell your family to move south.

FYI - I have had trouble watching the video with Firefox too, but it works great using the Google Chrome browser.

Hey, welcome back Brigitte and Brigitteheads!
I resolved to read some stories by the Russian writer Anton Checkov, and I have. So check off the Checkov. I resolved, when at a party, to focus all of my attention on being less self-conscious. I use the Camino browser on a MacBook Pro laptop, and have no trouble watching these vlo... uh, video blogs on ABC.

It's easy to have your dog respond to hand signals such as "sit" (raised index finger at 45 degrees) "stay" (fingers together, arm straight, palm out) and "come" (arm straight, palm out, then dropped straight down). Assuming they already do these things by voice command, it's cake to use the hand signals with the voice commands, then drop out the voice. For some reason, dogs seem to enjoy doing this and humans are really impressed-especially if the dog is some distance away. Humans who are not impressed by hand signals are probably not worth knowing. WE

My favorite Dog Tricks
==================

1. Patty Cake - Self explanatory but a classic (http://www.ehow.com/how_4494245_teach-dog-patty-cake.html)

2. Fetch a coke out of the fridge - It requires you to put all your soft drinks on the bottom row of your fridge but otherwise it's well within a dog's abilities. It's just like fetching anything else really.

3. (and this one requires a little human trick learning) The hide the (whatever) game. Get three cups and something to hide under one of them. Teach yourself how to move them around really quickly so most people will lose track of the thing under the cup. Then have your dog find it. This trick is kind of a cheat (it's actually done by teaching your dog the smell of whatever you're hiding) but if done right it looks really impressive.

So those are mine. Oh, and just for the record, training a dog to record a video isn't that far fetched. Obviously they couldn't work the computer by themselves (their eyes are a large part of that) but they could work a camera and if you bought a voice recognition program you could create shortcuts based on barks.

Dogs are actually smarter than people think (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/scienceandtechnology/science/sciencenews/3350...)

Hi Brigitte..
I don't know if it's just my part of the world (Southeast Asia), but since you started using ABC Media Player, I've had major difficulties watching your videos. It takes forever to buffer. Sad

Is there somewhere else I can watch it?

farukahmet's picture

Watch them at brigittedale[dot]blip[dot]tv
Or you can do what i do:
Go to blip tv and subscribe to her RSS: Every time a new video is uploaded, it shows up in your GoogleReader (that's what i use anyway) with a link saying "original video source". Right-click and save-as that link and watch the video with a media player, not from a website. This way you can make an archive for yourself like i do. Videos are about 70 Mb on average.

That's some serious frozen tundra.

How about just lowering the bar with some easy-to-do New Year's resolutions? Like resolving to gain weight, stop exercising, and take up smoking.

My dog Scruffy could do a "walk backwards" trick, where he jumped up on his hind legs and danced around a little for a snack.

P.P.S. Tundra footage rocks.

Happy New Year All!

You could teach Maddie to do a video blog. Actually you'll teach her to bark and growl on command. Then have her sit in front of the camera barking and growling with subtitles written by you for translation. While Maddie is video blogging, you will just lie on the floor looking bored/drowsy occasionally lifting your head for reasons unknown to the rest of us. This may sound like a lot of work but it would make a great video.

As for my resolution; not to set goals I have no intention of actually doing. If I ignore the inconsistent logic in that resolution, I think it will be easy to do.

PS. Check marks are cool.

Sundance? You mean the film festival. Brigitte can't be in that, it would be unfair to everyone else.

Hi Brigitte, good to have you back again and first I wanna wish you (and everybody else) a Happy New Year!!. Hopefully the holidays were as good for you as they were for me, although I don't wanna talk about my New Year's resolutions....... yep, already on January 2nd I blew it! Angel

Do you know if ABC is working on the not-being-able-to-watch-your-videos-problem??

Welcome back and Happy New Year BD.

My parents have an assistance dog that not only does all the things you mention (roll over/sit/stay etc)but does extra stuff like, opening drawers (with small pull-ropes attached), and emptying the washing machine/tumble dryer (it's a frontloader - we tried with a toploader but she kept falling off Wink ). We also taught the pooch to 'speak' on command, in case one of my parents needs help. So now she barks when a fist is held up in the air. Woof!!

BilliamJ's picture

Is it just me but I'm not seeing a video in either Firefox or IE

It's not just you. I've given up trying to watch via abc family and get my fix from youtube/itunes.
