Ah, awareness! We can choose responses to others' behaviors, too. Say I'm at dinner with a woman and she throws a drink in my face. I can say, "Finally, I've found a woman with some spunk!" I can throw a drink back at her and get us both arrested. Or, I can excuse myself, go to the men's room, climb out the window, and stick her with the check. No doubt there are other choices, too. The point is that just as we have choices about interpreting behavior, we have choices about our responses. Awareness of being able to consciously choose our responses can be very liberating. WE

Cool glass table lamp. Are the branches etched (maybe sandblasted?), or is it a decal? The perception checking technique you talk about is a pretty smart idea. It could be used in other aspects of our lives... i.e. Driving & road rage... when that "jerk" cuts you off, instead of flipping out & literally flipping "off" at the jerk you could come up with two explanations for their jerk like driving. Maybe jerk really has to go to the bathroom... like REALLY go, so their rushing home! Or, maybe jerk's kid forget her ballet shoes for her big dance recital. So, jerk is rushing home to get the ballet shoes..., so lil' Sally can dance... it could be a possibility?

someone once said, (I'm paraphrasing) that the difference between a picture and a portrait is that in a portrait, there's always something wrong with the foot. Seeing your lttle tiny feet next to your head made me think of that..
