Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial beginning of summer! I miss the way summer vacations divided up my life into easy-to-define chunks.

The title is pretty self explanatory. I'm Brigitte Dale and I'm a burger-earner.

This economy is forcing lots of people who'd finally gotten a place of their own to go back to having a roommate. Make the best of it! P.S.

I miss like, having that summer break and going out of town and having those one-week-long-really-intense-flirtation-love-happenings... LOL

You can catch fireflies the night before a flight, put them in a ziplock bag in the refrigerator to slow their metabolism, then set them free on the airplane. It's just funny as hell to see them flash down the aisle. We don't have fireflies in my part of Oregon, for some reason, but I have used big bottle-flies I capture with a shop vac. Doesnt' seem to hurt them any. When I'm on my game, I can pick them flies right out of the air. I'm not good enough to do it with chopsticks, though. I'm no Chuck Norris. WE

Great blog.

Treated my family to a visit to Baskin Robins... even though they should have treated me.

Perhaps Lady Brigitte will finally give me a word of sympathy for my birthday... 289 Days since the Great Ankle Injury!

Things I hope to accomplish before summer's end: Finish the kitchen floor! We tore up the linoleum and are laying down ceramic tile. The trick to ceramic tile: POWER TOOLS. Ya know the little hand jig saw they try to sell for working on ceramic tile? SCREW IT! Buy a carbide edged, ceramic tile cutting, circular saw blade! Ahh, the power!!

Another thing I hope to accomplish before summers end: Go camping WITHOUT giving myself a serious injury.

Jim, if you live in So Cal, I have a real ceramic wetsaw you can borrow...

Thanks for the generous offer, but I'm all the way across the nation in Northern Virginia.

Crying Sorry, Brigitte, but I've lived in Ca. half of my life, and have never seen a firefly. Think the smog killed them off in the '80's when it was really bad, and they never made a comeback.
On a personal note, I'm 48 and still don't know who I am.. but I don't miss me much... Blush

Now you've got me remembering summers in West Virginia when I was a kid: summer camp, Boy Scouts, riding my bike around the neighborhood, swimming, catching lightning bugs, playing "spotlight" and "hide and go seek" with the other kids, running around in the woods, kids setting up lemonade stands, vacations with my family.

I only have one goal this summer. Go to a beach where the water is crystal clear. So far things are not looking good.

That's why I am an academic. I still get both my winter and summer vacations. Sadly, I still get bigger each year =/
Ohh and Brigitte, about your summer goals...You can always come to Tucson and swim in my pool...

Brigitte, I know exactly what you mean. Eventhough I have not had a kid style Summer vacation for at least 15 years I still miss it. I have many wonderful childhood Summer memories.

Sadly, Memorial Day Weekend has been more and more a signifier of hellish traffic around here. But I, too, miss the good ol' 3 month break from what was "life" back then. I work at a University, so we have a somewhat similar break given our department deals w/ housing.

But I got the firefly viewing down, saw one the other day. It should be spend one evening catching fireflies, and then letting them all escape in a mass glowing firefly exodus.

My goal is to actually take a few small vacations.
