This week, R&B star Trey Songz visits the Rev showcase and shares the mike with Tay on his single "I Need a Girl." Here's some 411 on the man and the song.

"I Need a Girl" is the first single off Trey's third album, "Ready." It was produced by Stargate, the Norwegian duo who also worked on his Grammy-nominated 2007 hit "Can't Help But Wait." Other producers and songwriters who contributed to "Ready": Bryan-Michael Cox, Jermaine Dupri, Sean Garrett, Eric Hudson, Soul Keys, Soundz, and Trey's longtime collaborator, Troy Taylor.

Tremaine Aldon Neverson was a military brat till his family settled in Petersburg, Virginia. Thanks to his mom's encouragement, he entered a local talent show at 14 -- and won. And then he kept winning talent shows.

When he was 15, Trey met Troy Taylor (who's produced Boyz II Men, Lionel Richie, and others). Troy recognized the boy's talent and invited him to move to New Jersey to learn how to record in a studio. Trey worked as Troy's vocal production assistant, an experience that led to signing with Atlantic Records and recording his first album, "I Gotta Make It" (2005).

"With every move you make, you have something to prove," says Trey. "There's always room for improvement. I'm growing, as a person, as an artist, and as a man. My clothes fit differently, my braids are missing ... . I'm changing as a person, and the music is the better for it."

He's also growing as a humanitarian. In August 2008, Trey co-launched Songz for Peace, a charity that travels the country telling teens about the dangers of violence and promoting positive opportunities. Says Trey: "The violence within the youth is rising at an alarming rate. I get to speak on that, and children listen to me."
