I agree with the people that like the show. I love it. All the characters are great. My favorite is Becca. She doesn't seem to take the gymnastics thing to seriously. She seems more interested in boys!

Well i really like this show but they should make it more realistic. And wow there must be a make out part in every episode from what i have seen so they should cut back on those kinds of parts. I really hope that emily goes out with that one girls brother who is also a gymnast. Big smile

I couldn't agree more with the comments about how unrealistic this show is. The producers really should educate themselves on elite gymnastics. The gymnasts in this show are doing gymnastics at about level 8 and with bad form and technique. The actors in the show (for the most part), don't even have the bodies of gymnasts. There are some pieces that can't be like real gymnastics to create the drama, but at least get some of the basics right and it would really help. Who did you consult to get help on the reality of elite gymnastics??? I have to believe there are plenty of doubles out there who can and would be willing to do higher level gymnastics. This show is going to give gymnastics a bad name.

I agree with mrbusiness1717. I am not a gymnast myself. I'm an actor/animal science student. But the show has definatley outlined that Emily does not come for a typical gymnast family. She didn't previously belong to a gym, her mom is not a typical "stage" Mom (and I use that term to poke fun at my own mom. She is a proud stage mom. But she is the good kind. Helps me prep for auditions, calls me to support me before I go in, critiques my performances, never misses a show, etc. She's not the crazy parent you want to shoot for forcing their child to do something they don't want to do.) and she isn't decked out in the newest leotards. But she has heart and determination and I for one am thrilled by that. I'm glad abc has finally latched onto a new style of shows that portrays real life, real issues. I have no doubt that Emily is going to get bashed every step of the way to national just as I would bet money that she is going to be shown busting her butt in training.
My favorite part of the episode though was when her mom looked at her and told her that she was a very strong, independent young woman. Emily is the type of role model that young girls need out their. Role models of women who chase their dreams and refuse to let go of them without a fight....Can't wait for next week!

well i'm for one kinda glad this isn't a "reality" show. this show sheds light on a sport most only pay attention to during the olympics. a nice surprise.

realgymnast's picture

While this show may have the formula of tension and conflict, the gymnastics is far from being 'national' caliber or anything near 'Olympic hopeful' quality. The producers need to actually consult some high-level gymnasts, coaches or gymnastic organizations because they did not even get the Olympic order of events correct! It is actually frustrating for a gymnast to watch. In addition, the parents of gymnasts at this level would also 'know' that being on time is important and would not jeopardize a meet to let the gymnast sleep in. I hope viewers do not think that this is what real gymnasts do.

mrbusiness1717's picture

keep watching the show before you jump to conclusions about the gymnastics or the show in general, b/c u nor I have any clue as to whats ahead; im a gymnast too and happy that theres a show that puts what I do on the spotlight! and ps, incase u didnt notice, emily's mom in the show has issues (hint) which is why she was late! agree? and some of the stunts that i saw in just yestardays episode were definately of high level

While Emily's mother has issues, she still would not let her daughter sleep in and risk missing a meet as important as the one depicted in the show - that is not at all realistic. For the most part the 'stunts' in the show were not high level, one element on the beam was sort of, but not the rest - and the vast majority of moves were done in a very sloppy way. Watch Nastia Liukin's bar routine in the movie Stick it (I won't even go into her and Shawn Johnson's Olympic performances here) and tell me that the gymnastics routines in this show match it! My criticism is basically on the technical aspects of the show in its depiction of the sport of gymnastics. Shows about medicine make sure that they use the correct terms for tests, symptoms, diseases etc. because if they don't the show looks bad and unrealistic. That is what is happening in this show, they should have researched the gymnastics sport more in order to ensure a correct and realistic reflection of the sport.
