comment live from the 'middleman' comic-con panel!
Posted Thu, 07/24/2008 - 08:30 — The MiddlemanThursday's the big day for Middlefans everywhere -- not only will the show's cast and crew be at Comic-Con International in San Diego, but they'll be spilling secrets at a panel featuring the horse's mouth himself, Javier Grillo-Marxuach. (MOUTH! I said mouth!)
I know of at least one person (looks in mirror) who'll try to post comments about the panel here-- but in case something should happen to that person, we need as many fans at Comic-Con to hop on this thread and keep people informed!
But bear in mind, fans-not-at-the-con, chances are the panel will contain SPOILERS ... so stay away, ye spoilerphobes! But if you crave any info available, be here Thursday, July 24, from 2-3pm PST to get the lowdown on ABC Family's "The Middleman."
What revelations do you hope will be delivered at the panel?

TIS STARTING! Javi and Matt are up on the stage but there's a video apparently... AND SCENES!
Natalie Morales is on le screen with the head of an interrodroid thanking us - and thar be clips -
Matt and Nat tied up texting Lacey for help - Middleman knows Lacey's number for some reason.
"If you want to release the tension, don't date my roommate"
Noser's with Lacey - they look spiff!
"Noser, get the axe."
"What axe?"
KEVIN SORBO!
He's dressed as a Middleman and interrogating some kid.
Kid's dad was a super villain before he found Jesus.
Kevin's getting up close and personal, he's into the torture.
Our Middleman stops Kevin Middleman - Kevin MM thinks our MM is too soft.
Kevin and Matt fighting! Ida saves the day!
Awesome AWESOME stuff!
Someone's asking about the language - likes the squeaky clean language and the bleeps - apart from ep 6, is there a reason there's less bleeping.
There's apparently TONS of bleeps in the finale.
next question - why the heck are they on at 10.
Javi says that abc fam cn air it whenever they want cuz they've been so supportive - he thinks that a lot of the audiences at a earlier time slot were more their SLAT audience an that MM is better at an edgier slot.
He hopes that they stick with one time slot so people can find it easier.
Next is a graphic novel question - will they adapt the third one? (The Middleman Dies in it)
Javi says that they're adapting parts of it, but not doing the story - FATBOY appears a lot.
Mark Sheppard appears as Manservant Neville in the comic and Mark is appearing in the series.
But no way to do the giant robots and no plans to kill Matt's MM.
Next question - not a lot of shows like the Middleman that are fun like other shows like Jake 2.0 and the Chronicle - not really a question but the guy brought Javi a present.
Question for Matt - his favorite Middleman saying.
Matt says "Mutual of Omaha" is one of his favorites.
Javi plugs the "choose the middlephrase polls"
Next question was something about a banana peel?
Okay then a question - does Matt wear glasses not as the Middleman? Or what does he look like in his "alter ego."
Matt says he's too mysterious to have one, he thinks he sleeps at HQ while "Ida cuddles him." lmao
Moderator asks about casting Matt Keeslar.
Matt said his agent sent him the script and Matt said he just had to do the pilot - had no idea about the comics, but liked the script.
Javi said that he'd have to do the audition but he'd have the part.
Javi saw matt in "Last Days of Disco." And Matt gives a monologue about "Lady and the Tramp" and he and his wife thought that he embodied the Middleman.
Next question is for "the suit" (the moderator from ABC Family) - "are you gonna cancel the show if it does well on 'net but not TV?"
Moderator says they're taking everything into account even though they stand to make more money on air than online.
Javi's thankful for the size of the panel (We've packed the room!)
Javi says if you're a fan - TELL YOUR FRIENDS - especially if you have a Nielsen box!
"PIMP MY SHOW" Javi says.
Friend just pointed out that Matt really talks just like the Middleman - sounds just like him minus the "gosh darns."
The next question is from a guy working for "Nielsen" - the Moderator just gave him t-shirts and kissed him and Javi threw money at him - apparently at his office they play "spot the reff" with the Middleman - are there any more theme reffs?
Javi says they're all like they're all like that and that the reffs on the Zombie ep was about the 60s band "The Zombies."
Next question is about finding a second audience on DVD
JAVI: "Well, we'd like to find a primary audience on the air..."
Are there cool things planned for the DVDs - Javi's volunteered to do the commentaries for all the eps.
Also they have videotaped all the read-throughs... they should be on the DVD.
Javi-casts, lots of behind the scenes stuff.
They want the DVDs to be chocked full of stuff.
Moderator says it's the most critically acclaimed show on ABC Fam.
Next question isn't a question but list of FACTS -
She thinks MM is her fav show since Buffy.
Matt's her fav actor since David Boreanaz.
She really likes the MM - and made an MM character on THIS VERY PAGE!
Next question comes form a stalker! j/k - Lost and Medium are a bit darker than MM, is he having fun and are there any LOST easter eggs in the MM?
Javi says that once you're off the island, you're off the island - he loves LOST but it's too soon to cross-pollinate off of - he doesn't want to spoof them with they're "special treatment" yet.
He gives props to the geniuses behind LOST and Medium but MIDDLEMAN is about hope and optimism and that you can be a hero and keep your life. The characters are heroic w/out being tragic and that's tremendously important to Javi.
Next question - Matt, what was your fav badguy to face.
Javi, what was your favorite to write?
They whisper a bit and.... Matt says in a coming episode there's a sorority.... MM is possessed by a sorority girl nerd.
SUIT pimps GREEK - returns in a month! (Missed the date? 25th?)
Javi mentions the finale - "The Palindrome Reversal Palindrome" - they go to the middleman mirror universe and everyone has a goatee - there's more whispering....
Matt thought Kevin Sorbo was a formidable opponent.
Next question is from a fan of Les McClaine. He mentions the hebrew monologue (was translated by the questioner's rabi) and Matt spouts it off like a pro.
Asks Matt about chemistry on set - Matt says that everyone's amazing and incredible and that they have a lot of fun.
Javi name drops lots of people on the crew which I wish I was fast enough to get them all down. But they're philosophy is "fun to make, fun to watch."
The next question is about the references - why did they want to put them in and do you have to liscense the references.
No licensing, which is why Noser's stump the band had no lyrics. But they thought it'd be funny if you never see Noser doing the things he's good at.
The original idea for the MM back in 97/98 - javi was so tired of shows that made logical sense and just wanted a show of all refs, but someone told him he had to have characters.
Javi says the "Evil is incidental" - evil is something that exists in the world, but it can be fought - it's incidental to the truth of the characters
Next question - UK release?
Suit says he doesn't know.... earnestly being sold globally but doesn't know the deets.
Javi says MM owes a debt to Tom Baker Doctor Who.
Javi wants a UK release.
only five mins left - two more questions.
Question for MATT - he used to watch Batman, saw comparisons to old Batman show (60s) and wanted to know if it was intentional.
Matt says it plays to it, there are refs.
Last Q - is it gonna be on in Canada?
International markets are wait and see and there's interest and...
LES MCCLAINE ARTIST OF MM shows up!
And the close up.
Wow. Thanks for all that speaker. Sounds like it was a lot of fun.
Awe, Speaker, thanks! Wish I could've been there, sounds like you had uber fun, though.
What time are you liveblogging Friday?

Awesome! Thanks to Speaker for posting to us all of this saucy Middleman goodness. Terribly happy to hear that Sorbo (SORBO!!!) will guest star soon, and can't wait to hear why he is apparently a Middleman too?
Maaaan, why wasn't I there!!!
Thankies, Speaker! Man, what I would jump off of to have been there. =( Ah, well. I was hoping someone would have asked Matt and Javi to do a dance of some sort, but alas, it will have to happen another day. xP
