ABC Family: The Middleman a middlefan's thoughts on the premiere -- spoiler alert

a middlefan's thoughts on the premiere -- spoiler alert

If you haven't seen the episode yet -- SPOILER ALERT!

So the pilot finally aired! I personally have been waiting for this day for several years now, and I can honestly say that I couldn't be happier! (Well, maybe a little happier if a set visit were involved --wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say no more!) The actors were great, the adaptation was spot-on ... I'm just smiling ear to ear right now!

And the interesting thing is that despite how close the episode was to the graphic novel, the episode left me with different emotions than the comic did. The first time I read the original story arc, I considered it a "one shot" with hopes of a sequel. When the second arc finally came out a year later, I treated it the same way. The third arc hit after ANOTHER year and, of course, I read it the same way, too. Characters developed and plot threads wove through each of the stories, but with a year in between "episodes," it just wasn't what I focused on.

But now, with a weekly series, I KNOW something new is coming up in only a few short days. So when I notice Lacey and the Middleman smiling coyly at each other, I don't just think it's cute -- I wonder if it's going anywhere. And when Wendy mentions her father's plane going down under mysterious and yet-to-be-explained circumstances, I don't take it as a backstory parody, but instead I wonder if we'll hear more about this very significant event in our heroine's life. The story possibilities are ENDLESS!

So, what did YOU think of the pilot, and what are some of your favorite already-planted seeds?

Who knows? Maybe one day, five seasons down the road, you'll skip back to this entry and see that your prediction finally came true!

An unfamiliar face sits behind the interrogation table. He's no 'Middleman' actor I've ever seen ... so, who could he be?

Personally...I haven't been waiting for this series for years. I had never heard of "The Middleman" but loved the humor in the teasers that have been bouncing around every station in the world. The premier turned out even better than I expected. I hope this doesn't become another one of those quirky, interesting shows that gets killed in the first season. It seems too interesting to be allowed to live. Sorry...I'm getting dismal.

As far as seeds of future story...I'm not interested. I'll wait until it happens and enjoy every minute of it. There is certainly a lot of great potential for a humorous and awkward romance between the bunny lover and the boy scout. It's all good with me tho...as long as that wendy's useless rich dweeb of a boyfriend gets eaten by a squid I'm happy.

Good way to look at it as far as the seeds go, because that's how the show's being written. Javi's claimed he's tired of working on the show that's a slave to its plot arc bible and wants to just have fun -- which is what MM is to me! Smiling

And I don't know of Ben's ultimate fate, but I don't think we're going to see him anytime SOON - so that's at least some good news! Smiling

I think the show is a waste of time. The story line is bad.

I thought the pilot was fantastic. If ever I used the term "funky-fresh," now would be the time. I adore the bubbly dead-pan (and here I thought those were contradictory) tone the Middleman's lines are delivered in, the dry humor the whole show skinny-dipped in, and the pure quirk and sass every character brings to the show. I genuinely look forward to seeing everyone developed (except for Ben, of course) and that's rare after just a pilot.

Lessee....seeds, seeds, seeds...

Personally, I'm really in favor of seeing the whole Wendy/Middleman dynamic develop. Of course, I'm also in favor of a follow-up on that whole "tying Wendy to the car" suggestion. That could be highly entertaining.

Kelly - I think I might get in trouble if I respond to that last statement, so I'll just smile and not. Smiling

Or quote Ben the doorknob, "No...it's not...that kinky."

Okay,I "tried" to watch this middleman show . . . but to tell you the truth it [filtered word]! Wildfire was so much better and if you canceled Wildfire because of this show, then I'm never gonna watch ABC Family again. My friends and I agreed that this is the worst show eva!!!!!!

I think that this show looks rather stupid. i don't understand why they would replace this with wildfire. wildfire was a milliion times better!
