fave stars, dig?
Posted Thu, 05/07/2009 - 02:34 — SCJ Green RoomSee your fave ABC Family stars getting down and dirty ... to plant trees.
Francia Raisa and Ken Baumann from "The Secret Life of the American Teenager," Matt Dallas and April Matson from "Kyle XY," Scott Michael Foster from "Greek," and Erica Hubbard from "Lincoln Heights" helped out at a recent tree-planting event.
Check out photos from the event.
Feel inspired to plant some trees? Here are some tips to help you get started.
1. There’s no place like home. Planting a tree in your own backyard is a great way to begin.
2. Go native. Plant trees that are native to your area. Not only will they adapt easily to the local soil and climate, they’ll be easier to care for and will provide food and shelter for area wildlife.
3. Do your homework. Search the web or consult an arborist or a local nursery to help you plant the right trees, the right way.
4. Organize a tree-planting event at your school, community center, or place of worship. You’ll have to do some fund-raising and recruiting, but it’s amazing how people will gladly get their hands dirty for a great cause.
5. Contact a local tree organization like TreePeople in Los Angeles. They’ll have lots of suggestions for how you can help “nature heal our cities.”
