It seems like the crowd at Grant High always has sex on the brain. When Ben's dad suggests he spend the summer helping relatives run their hotel in Italy, everyone automatically thinks he's going overseas for sex. When Adrian learns about Ben's trip, she's immediately suspicious of what Amy will do with Ricky while Ben is gone. When Ricky talks to his foster parents about getting a place of his own, they assume it's so he can have the freedom to have sex whenever he wants. When Adrian encourages her mom to go out at night with Ruben, her mom knows what Adrian really wants is time alone to have sex with Ricky. Even when Grace teases her brother with a secret (about George's vasectomy), Tom assumes the big news is that Grace had sex again. And so on and so on and so on ... .
Do teenagers really think about sex ALL the time? Is everything connected to sex in some way? And is it just the physical part, or does the emotional part play a role too? In all that thinking and talking about sex, does anyone ever consider the consequences of having sex -- the fact that, every time you have sex, you are risking a pregnancy or sexually transmitted infections or hurt feelings or gossipy rumors or pangs of regret?

I spent most of my high school years obsessed with sex but I had the resolve not to have sex b/c I didn't want a baby in high school. (Lots of my friends had kids in high school.) I'm happy to be an adult who is almost done with college and now having my first baby.

adrian is in love withh ricky and just loves having sex.. i admit thats all she cares aboutt. but amy
never wants to have it again; she blames it AND ricky for john, but realistcly its nobodys fault but her's.
and ricky, he was obsessed withh sex, but has finally cames to his senses and GREW UP. Ben is just at the age where he wants to do it.. but i dont think he'll do it when he goes to italy.. he loves amy.

Sex is a part of life. Everyone thinks about it, just it fills a different amount of space in every person's mind. Some may think about it constantly and some might think of it once in a blue moon. That's how it is. I agree that this show does go over the top on talking about it, but it IS the point of the show. Having it depends on what you believe, and that's all there is to it. One thing, though. Amy has turned into a complete snob throughout the past two seasons. All you hear is 'poor me, poor me' and she is NEVER happy. Honestly it's getting difficult to watch. A baby is a joy, not a curse, and if she didn't want the responsibilities that come with being a mother, she should have put John up for adoption. All she has done is complain about what a bother it is, when she should be happy that she has a wonderful human being she gets to go home and see every day. She's the main character of the show, and she's my absolute least favorite.
wtf?! heres the plain truth. everyone thinks everyone is talking about or even having sex thus some actually do because thats what they assume everyone is doing which causes a chain reaction. so stop the chain but not talking about it, listening to it or even doing it & if you are, dont make it public.
and MOST people dont have sex because they think others are doing it. they have sex because they are hooking up with a boyfriend or just a boy and they dont know how to say no and it goes too far
not all teens think about is sex. this is coming from a teenager mom. i got pregnant my first time having sex, and i'm still with the dad (i'm 17) and yeah we all think about sex, but it's not the number one thing in our life. and i may have the consquences, but i love my son to death and i wouldn't have it any other way. it's harder to have a child - but it doesn't make life horrible, imcomplete, or not fun. i was a cheerleader before i was pregnant, and i would rather be with my son and see him smile then spend a minute on the football field.

I do think that they ARE always talking about sex. That's what the show is about and if you dont like it don't watch it because you will hear about sex. I think teenagers do think about sex alot but they think of other more important things too. I think the reason this show is all about sex is to warn people what it's like. I mean i would LOVE to have sex and i think about it sometimes... but I KNOW i dont want the consequenses.

the secret life of the american teenager is abotu SEX. thats it. they dont mention any thing else, because the focus of the show is sex. thats it. but correct, in real life, no high schooler only thinks about sex. yes, but in high school, sex is many of the conversations, others will be boys and ppl on crack and things like that, but most conversations are like about this couple have sex or that couple had sex and gossip about sex.
but believe me, i NEVER spread it, cuz that is wrong!!

Teens don't always think about sex, but when they do it's because it's pushed as a "forbidden" thing. This show does stretch it a bit...in a huge way. No one at my HS went around talking constantly about sex or spreading secrets that would damage a friend's family. Sure, teens joke about it because they're uncomfortable or brag because they're over compensating. This show has just gotten crazy

I don't realy think all people think, like Adrian said to Grace you're just prepared for sex,you have the birth controll in you but that doesnt mean that you are ready and some peoplle should THINK and ask themselves am I ready to have a child, if I cant even stand this life why make another one?

Okay just about "EVERY BODY" thinks about sex at least once. some of us rareley think about it and some of us are consantley thinking about it. it depends on how we lived our lives with thoughts and actions that make us into who we are (wich i'm pretty sure most of you know) some of us its not our fault we think about it becase maybe we go to school where sex is all thats talked about or maybe we go to a school where sex is a topic that may be brought up only in health class and it partially depends on the community you live in. and you follow your belifes determined no matter what other people say. most of us think about things in our daily lives that make up the majority of out thoughts. so for some people its hard to not think about sex and for others its perfecttly natrual and most people think about the consiquenses of sex its usualy not done just on a whim without consideration (unless your completley utterley hoplessley blinded by love and have all ready done it a few times with that person and seems like a common thing between you 2) but still even people like that would give some consideration. I think this show over does it with the sex stuff a little bit and doesn't emphasize enough importance on teenage pregnancy (except for that one little comertial at the end of each show)

oh and one more thing. a sin is a sin thats why Jesus died on the cross for us. so that we wont go to hell for sinning. i was born out of wedlock and your right the baby is innocent but a baby sins all the time thats why Jesus came and died for us. because he loves and cares for us.
i find it very unrealistic that grace is always shoving her christian beliefs down everyone's throats. i have nothing against chritianity, i'm just saying christianity is the most common religion in america. but you don't see eighty some percent of teenagers running around with cross necklaces telling everyone "the lord is my savior!". it just doesn't happen. and why does this show only show christian beleifs? i understand christianity and respect all religions, i just think it's weird that no other views are talked about.
I agree. This time is when teens are trying to figure out who they are, and that includes religion. Just one more thing that would make the show more realistic.

a baby is a sinner, we are all sinners at any age. but because they are too little to understand who Jesus is, they will go to heaven when they die. on the other hand, when you get to the age 10 and up, you can go to hell for not believeing and accepting Christ as your savior. He died on the cross for our sins, He paid the price for us to be able to get to heaven. Otherwise you wouldnt be in heaven and would be in hell for us being wicked and evil people.
If you arent saved and arent a TRUE beleiever, you will go to hell if you dont repent of your sins and accept the Lord as your savior!!!!!!

Christianity is NOTthe only belief in the world. It is not THE word, THE religion. Just because someone does not believe every little thing YOU do, it doesn't mean they're a bad person and it does NOT mean they are going to hell. ""Jesus"" was Jewish. Are you going to say he went to hell too?
i understand that its not the only belief in the world but its the only one that will get you to heaven one day. Actually one day when you face God on judgement day and He will say to you one of two things: if you are saved, "Well done good and faithful servent". But to the one who wanted to live their own life, "Flee from me, I never knew you". God is so loving he made a way for us to get to heaven and that is through our LOrd Jesus. If you really think "good" people are getting to heaven, you have a rude awaking that is going to come.

ThePenToMyPaper, I agree with everything you've said in all of your comments. But I want to point one thing out. Christians believe it's their God given duty to shove their beliefs down every Nonchristian's throat. If they don't they're considered failures. Some have this holier than thou attitude and think that they've got everything right, when in reality they have no way of proving it.
Some may say "Read your Bible and you'll find the proof" but here's a newsflash: MEN wrote the Bible. MEN who wanted power and authority. MEN who wanted to be the only conduit to God. In those times Jesus wasn't thought of as a holy son of God he was just a holy man. They knew he had a wife and child and the men who put together the Bible excluded all evidence of that. Read the Gnostic Gospels and you'll see Jesus portrayed in a different light.

That's not true for all Christians, but I agree. And I'm glad you feel the same about the points that I've made. I'm not trying to push any belief on anyone. Personally I'm NOT a Christian. I'm not anything. That does not by any means make me a bad person. Here's what I think. If they believe that their father would turn all who don't do exactly as he says away, why would they want that sort of a father? A good father loves unconditionally.

They believe that since we are descendants of Adam and Eve we all have a piece of their sin within us. I don't understand why they still think that, since Jesus came to forgive us wouldn't that be forgiven as well? Probably just as an excuse to keep blaming women for all the problems in the world...

We all are born with sin. We think that because its the truth. and you are partly wrong with your forgivness statment. Jesus came to die on the cross to pay our price for our sins but only for the ones who follow Him. If you dont accept Him as your savior, your debt is not paid for. which means that the cost that you get for not following Him, is eternal death in the pits of hell. Hell is a scary place to think about. its not what people say oh its just hell. You are slaves and your torchered and suffering FOREVER. you dont get another chance.
Its not women that are problems in the world, its the world itself and our wicked hearts.

I have a question that I want you to seriously think about before you reply. What if you're wrong and Christianity is not the "true" religion of the world? When you die and you learn this what are you going to do?
I'll tell you what I'll do on the flipside. If I find out that I'm wrong and I won't be reincarnated I will ask forgiveness of your forgiving God. And if he doesn't understand why I believed the way I did and does not forgive me, I will accept that, and go to hell if that is where I'm sent. You may say "too little, too late" but I don't think you give your God much credit in his capacity to forgive.
And no women are not the problem in the world, but the men who wrote that book you hold so dear brought the idea to the table. They needed to get people to think women were less than men in order to convert them away from pagan beliefs. They saw women as a threat to their power because they were semi worshipped for having the ability to have children.

I totally agree with you I think that everyone should wait till like your out of collage at the least if your not about staying pure. so it doesn't affect what you can do when you grow up. I for one don't want to start dating until i am out of college so i can focus on my school work. but i don't know anyone else who is doing something like that so a am like totally down.
And how old are you, miss ptl4ever419? Are you even in high school? I doubt it, because you did spell 'college' wrong. And used the wrong form of 'effect' and 'YOU'RE'. Given, not all high schoolers use proper grammar either but that's not my point. My point is that until you've actually experienced what it's like to be with someone emotionally, or to want to BE in a relationship, you shouldn't say that. How are you going to know what to do when you're out of college and have never been in a relationship? Honestly..
