Want a fun site that your kids will enjoy?
Posted Wed, 07/01/2009 - 12:49 — bettedaviseyesI know a lot of people on here probably are proud parents (or grandparents) to a few bundles of joy! But doesn't the internet freak you out sometimes with all the spam and viruses? the computer hackers? the potential not-so-nice 40 year old men? Well I found this awesome site out for kids. It's called Whyville.net. Want to hear more about it? Well take a grab a seat.
For starters...
~Whyville has been around since the 20th century.. meaning 1999. It's nice because it is in constant update, but the updates don't slow your computer down because its a website, not an application like AIM or MSN. They come naturally while you're often tucked away in your beds.
~Whyville has been listed as one of the safest sites on the whole net a few times already! That's because (yes I have an account. I'm jbalways3 by the way) they filter out bad words:swear, curse, offense, racial slurs, etc. You can also add to the list if you don't want your kid to hear or say other ones in your personal preferences.
~To join Whyville, you have to pass a test! But, it's not too difficult. It literally teaches you a mini lesson then asks a question based on the lesson. The best part, it's FREE to join!
~Once a member, you can make your avatar, earn more clams, buy a scion, rent a house, run for senator, join WhyClub, do the WhyEat Challenge, the list goes on! You can also chat with people around the world in the many themed chatrooms-Beach, Woods, Park, Snowboard Mountains, etc.
~They don't use dollars on Whyville, but rather clams or pearls. Clams don't cost real USD, but pearls do. They need to pay their bills somehow too! You are never required to buy them, but you don't get extra perks unless you have pearls.
~You meet people around the world and they share common interests with you like favorite singer or favorite store plus gain an experience of artistic differences that will be vital for the real world some day!
~Did I mention it's free to join? If you are scared of the new place, they have helpers (veteran citizens) who can give you tours of the place and answer all those mind boggling questions!
Personally I have been a "Whyvillian" for almost a year now. I have met some amazing and inspiring people and accomplished so much. A scion is their type of car. It took me over a year to finally buy one, and it was NOT easy. I have changed my avatar numerous times and just had some crazy adventures on the site. I go on it when I have free time, usually in the cold winters when it's too cold to being playing outside. I recommend it to kids because it really gets you ready for real world encounters. If you are an artist, you can create face parts and manage a store. They even have a bank where you can invest, open CDs, and save your clams! You learn a lot of lessons. The games are both educational and fun. It's a total thumbs up for me! Better then letting your child be on Yahoo.
Want to know more? Well, I think you should maybe hop on over to Whyville. It's Free and it's safe. It's mainly for tweens and teens, but parents are always welcomed to join.
Until then, I will be sun bathing at the Beach! Hope to see you there!
