ABC Family: mother commercials during programming are not appropriate for young viewers

commercials during programming are not appropriate for young viewers

Sad When I see a channel called abcfamily, I assume that the channel is appropriate for young viewers. Especially when the channel shows Disney movies such as The Incredibles & Cars. However this evening my husband turned the channel due to the fact that during the movies The Incredibles & Cars, abcfamily was showing advertisements for Victoria Secret and Mariah Carey that were extremely inappropriate for young children. I am so disappointed and this isn't the first time. It is EXTREMELY misleading that you call this channel abcfamily, and our family will not be watching this channel anymore.

Sad I was very disappointed in the advertising shown during the 25 Days of Christmas programs, especially those shown before 8 p.m. CST. My children (9 and 5) started asking questions about Irritable bowel syndrome, why girls get pregnant at 15, and why they were seeing women in their bras and underwear. I began searching for alternatives to ABC Family...I was ticked, to say the least. I will not be watching this channel any longer.

It would be better if ABC Family would REFUSE advertisements for things like Victoria Secret.

Puzzled I concur with many of your viewers who were disgusted by your choice of sponsors for a G rated movie on a "family" channel. Are you kidding me? What were you thinking when you put Victoria Secret commercials on during Polar Express? Your marketing director should be fired, as well as their supervisor. We will not watch your network any longer, and I intend to report this obscene programming to the FCC and tell everyone I can, via all media, NOT to watch this network. You really blew it by putting those naked sluts on the air during a "children's program" in this time slot. At least you could wait until 9pm to advertise this filth. Disgusted in SoCal.

way to help out the crack pots who have nothing better to do than turn every channel into a Jesus network

it has nothing to with turning every network into a Jesus network. it has to do with abc FAMILY living up to their name. i have nothing against adult programming or advertising them, just not during children's programming.

and they do its ABC FAMILY not ABC KIDS

We were watching The Polar Express and my kids got to hear about a show involving teenage pregnancy. It is not so much about ABC Family as it is for ABC Ratings! What ever they can do to shock and awe...it is despicable. I am a father of a 9 and 8 year old. I am so disgusted that they choose those times to run the commercials during "G" movies. Mad

I agree too! The other evening I was watching this TV channel with my 5 year old daughter, during the 25 days of Christmas, and the Victoria commercial came on. Now my daughter wants a red bra like on the commercial. She said, "I need that for when I go to someplace out fancy!" I tried to explain that it's for adults, not for kids.

At least for these few days prior to Christmas, during this 25 Days of Christmas (targeted towards CHILDREN), PLEASE do not show these inappropriate commercials? Children shouldn't be exposed to them, I know I certainly feel like boycotting both the TV channel AND Victoria Secret for this.

Is there somewhere where we can direct this information to those who matter at the station???

Sad I also would like to comment on the inappropriate TV commercials on this channel. My husband and I chose to view these programs thinking a "Family Channel" would not subject us to the poor advertising that is becoming common everywhere on TV. It is really disturbing and you will lose viewers this way - there are other alternatives - buying, renting or even the family centered Sky Angel. I wonder if any programmers even care or will consider where this advertising is going.
Too bad.

so what if your child is watching a movie on a different channel and it shows up. maybe you should change the channel for commcercials. they will see it sooner or later. i mean i know they re 8 or 9 or so but still. the secret life of the mericn teenager is trying to promote that gettinng pregnant wjile you are in high school is hard and not good. i can say that i am in middle school and a lot of my friends were tlaking about it and saying how wrong it is to get pregnant then. it is trying to promote it.

I'm in total agreement! Tonight I was watching the same shows with my 5-year-old and 3-year-old grandchildren when we were "treated" to the Victoria Secret commercial! This is so inappropriate, and it just makes me wonder about the mentality of the staff making these decisions at ABC. Are you people so terribly out of touch. with the vast majority of Americans, to the point you believe this is, #1, appropriate for the audience you're attempting to reach, and #2, an intelligent use of your advertisers' dollars? After all, how many 3 and 5-year-old children make buying decisions regarding ladies underwear?

This is not the first time ABC has received complaints about this issue. A couple of months ago my daughter e-mailed the network about this same issue; but apparently, the company cares little, or none, about the desires of their audience. They never even bothered to respond.
