Holiday in Handcuffs
Posted Mon, 11/24/2008 - 11:20 — FamilyfilmfanFirst of all, I really enjoy watching the Family Channel and I think their 25 Days of Christmas line-up contains many fun, wonderful holiday films. I will still continue to watch their channel but I hope they will never again show such a grossly inappropriate film for children. Besides the fact that it doesn't have anything to do with the spirit of the holidays, it contains swearing, references to bondage (yes, that type of bondage), remarks about people sleeping around, one woman having a fling with her boss in a very kinky manner) and mature subject matter on top of that. How on earth could the Family Channel believe this is appropriate for children and their families? I'm still a fan of the the Family Channel. I just think this film belongs on Lifetime or Oxygen, not the Family Channel. Parents who watch this film with their children might want to prepare for some lively discussions following the viewing.

There is a big difference between this movie and the Secret life of the American teenager , the commercials promoting the Secret life were detailed you knew she was pregnant , this Holiday in Handcuffs is suppose to be a Christmas movie on a family channel geared to all ages ,now if they want to play a movie children of a certain age shouldnt watch play it after 9:00 or 10:00 at night , when they should be in bed.
We ( parents ) shouldnt have to change the channel cause they put in bad language or sexual content in a holiday movie. Christmas movies should be about the spirit of the season not a family who puts down one person and makes her feel bad about her self and dont get me wrong Mellisa Joan Hart is a wonderful actress and very funny but they could do this movie without the bad words and sex.
If you don't like what's on - turn off the tv or change the channel. What is inappropriate for you may be perfectly fine for someone else.
People can say what ever they want but it was a good movie

Hey, I only joined the forum to ask ABC Family about the commercial for "Bad Girls Club" during Polar Express. I need help explaining a few things to my 4 and 6 year old kids.
While I know that many of the commercials that run during programming are outside of the direct control of ABCF, they could set guidelines with the distributors to keep PG-13 commercials from being aired during shows targeted to young viewers.
Yet another channel to block.
Hey, I'm really new to this...posting on a blog...okay, okay, so I'm a single-mom running my own business, and raising my child without daycare. I was really disappointed last night to see the commercial for "Spirit" in the middle of "The Grinch". My six-year old didn't need to see a guy with a sub-machine gun, and I didn't need to see an ad for a movie mocking one of the holiest days of the year "opens on Christmas day" in the middle of a Christmas special. The message was clear. It was really disappointing.
grcsmm
Okay, hold up. Are you saying that there is a problem with a perfectly fine holiday movie, yet there is nothing wrong with shows like Secret Life of the American Teenager, which ABC Family also airs? I mean come on, this was a very good, very funny movie, and I was very pleasantly surprised about it. If you ask me, children are exposed to much worse media than a harmless movie such as Holiday in Handcuffs, so I sincerely doubt that this movie will have that negative an effect on children. However, I really do love this movie and recommend it to all.

Tell me which children's shows include references to casual sex and bondage, TB. I want to make sure to block the shows since I find PROTECTING my children is one of the most important roles a parent has to play. TEACHING is the first most important role, and teaching them to have standards and ethics is primary.
I think the key is this: teens and young adults who are NOT responsible for children *love* it and adults who have kids don't like the movie.
So, what does that tell you about this as "fine family fare?" PHAIL!

But can you understand, NYC, that this is not targeted towards kids? I mean seriously parents, in my opinion, do have the power to choose what their kids watch. ABC Family puts on programming like Secret Life that is much more inappropriate than this, but you can choose whether or not your kids will watch it. And lets face it, most kids do not want to see this romance movie between Mario Lopez and Melissa Joan Heart. Thus, this movie may not be "fine family fare", but neither is many other things on ABC Family!

I'm glad you agree that this was NOT "fine family fare." The traditional definition of "family viewing" should mean anyone of any age can watch a show or movie. It shouldn't mean "viewer discretion is advised."
I've already complained and I make sure to turn this movie OFF when it comes on ABC Family.

But its not like everything else is perfect for ABC Family! I don't understand why people have a problem with this movie airing, because it is good, and there is nothing wrong with a channel airing a movie that you just don't like.

LOL TB - you just don't get it and you're not really trying. Just let it go because you've already missed the point. lol

This movie is a good movie as you do have the option to change the channel for this is America. Their is worse stuff on cartoons so sit down and watch them some time. For some of you this will shock and mortify you! Yes I know this is a family channel but you also have to decide if you want to complain or just change the channel.
If you liked this movie it may be because your young and could care less about morals or family. You obviously do not have kids if you feel comfortable watching this movie. I was not ready to answer the questions about sex and homosexuals that came up because of this movie.
Point is....this was NOT a "FAMILY" movie by no means! abc family has lost the meaning of family with this one. Unless they think its normal to allow your 8 year old son to join in on fuzzy handcuffs, gay lovers, sexual words, girls bending over and guys looking at their butts, terms such as boinking someone?? all this with the parents and whole family watching all together?? Thats just uncomfortable and sick people, yuck! FAmily isnt just adults, its everyone young and old together watching a holiday movie that was labelled "family" but this was just sick and should not have been in the family isle at all. I accidentally bought this on DVD because it said "family" but wow was my family so humiliated and red when we saw what it really was. Such a huge dissapointment indeed. SHAME ON ABC FAMILY FOR LOSING THE MEANING OF FAMILY AND CHRISTMAS!
My boyfriend and I watched this movie and we enjoyed it. I dont see anything more wrong than some movies I have seen on t.v.
Regardless if you believe the content of the movie is appropriate or inappropriate it still stunk.
The plot was ridiculous and was not the type of movie I enjoy watching, but we are all entitled to our own opinion. Thankfully there are a ton of really great movies about the true spirit of christmas that appeal to the masses. For me, this wasn't one of them. Happy Holidays!

are you serious??? i understand that somethings are inappropriate for children (I have 2 small ones of my own) but this show is fairly innocent. There are more worse things that kids can see on "kid channels". All of the things you mentioned for not thinking the show is kid safe are all REAL everday things... hopefully your children are not being sheltered from these things throught out their young adult life as well or curiosity may get the best of them
I liked the movie. And I think there was nothing wrong w/ it.
