RSS Feeds

Thank you for the RSS feeds! Are they updated nightly or continuously?

RSS stands for either "Really Simple Syndication" or "Rich Site Summary" depending on who's writing about it. I've also seen it nicknamed "Really Simple Stealing" because some sites use it to gather information from other sites and then pass it off as their intellectual materials. (I'm sure it's meant as a joking insult, lol.)

Any site can set up an RSS feed with the proper software and staff. The RSS feed is a special web page that sites can set up to list their "latest and greatest" information. Bloggers use it a lot to make it quick and easy for their readers to get a quick look at their new entries.

Once you open the RSS Feed page, you have the option to "subscribe." Subscribing to a feed will allow it to be listed (like a favorite/bookmark) on your browser's FEED list. The FEEDS list on IE is found by opening your Favorites menu - the "Feeds" option is to the right of the word "Favorites" on the pull-down. It has it's own reader of sorts - more plain-text looking without all the bells, whistles, and advertisements.

After you've subscribed, you can just open the feed and see the most recent information. It also allows you to search for a keyword or user, or limit the view by date. Sort of like a news summary, you can see the new stuff without having to open each thread individually. (On a board, it may/may not make sense.) Plus the format is simple and easily read, perfect for those of us with "older eyes" that would like a break from the orange font, lol.

The RSS feed link can be found in the lower right hand corner of the forum topic list pages and most of the site, according to ABC Family.

If you scroll all the way to the bottom of a page, then scroll ALL THE WAY to the right, you can see the little button for RSS feeds. It's a small orange rectangle with a starburst in its corner.

You can add "/feed" to the address box of your browser when viewing a forum topic list.
