where does Middleman take place
Posted Wed, 09/03/2008 - 18:33 — hecate1209I was just wondering if anybody had an opinion on where Middleman takes place. I thought maybe somewhere in CA or NYC but after I thought for a few minutes maybe not NYC because it looks nothing like it no tall buildings, etc. Do you think maybe it's in the Midwest since there's no mention of oceans or beaches if it was in CA. If it was said on Javi please don't say watch Javi because my computer keeps disconnecting when i try to. Thanks. This is my first post & i'm new so please be nice! thanks

The zoo where Spanky hides out in is located in New Jersey, according to the Middleman Comic books, which I do believe are Cannon, and so I'd assume, regardless of the K-being West of the river connundrum that they are located somewhere in the New York City area.

Javi actually does address this issue in one of the Javi-Casts. He says that he didn't want to make it one specific area, so that is why it seems partly NYC East Cost and partly LA West Coast, partly Smalltown USA. I'm at work right now and check, but I believe he refers to the area as Megaurbanopolis, or something to that effect.
No more monologuing, or I'll Swiss-cheese you on principle.
The only definitive clue we have as to Megaurbanopolis' location are the call letters to the TV station, KBTTF (BTTF= Back to the Future, naturally), from the Manicoid episode. Stations with Ws as the first letter are east of the Mississippi River, while stations that start with K- are west of said river. A typical gimmick used in adventure shows and movies is to display a map, and then have a red line trace the path of a journey from destination to destination. Since the location of Megaurbanopolis, or Metro, is NOT specifically mentioned, this is probably why no map-tracing was done (well, besides the added production cost) when Wendy flew to the rescue of Em-Em and Sensei Ping in the Middlejet, or when Em-Em, Dubby, and Guy Goddard sailed to the Candle's Island in the Cancer Sub, ahem, the Middlesub.
I believe that in the Sino-Mexican Revolution, a stock establishing shot of the Los Angeles skyline was used. However, I think that this can be dealt with in future episodes by inserting skyline shots of other cities in order to completely befuddle the Middlefans.
Some people dream in black-and-white,
And others dream in color.
But when I see you in my sleep,
My dreams are sweet-and-sour.
Good look on the call letters. I knew about the difference between W and K, but I didn't pick up on it while watching the episode. You have a keen eye.
