Band Chair Tryouts-UGH
Posted Tue, 11/03/2009 - 18:17 — monkeygirl311I am so nervous for chair tryouts. I did them last year and I was 4th chair outs of 14 clarinets. I was proud of myself. I am more nervous this year. The song is harder and I am scared I am going to get a worse chair. I have them on Monday and it is Tuesday today. I am sick so I probably won't be able to practice till Thursday or Friday. I am SOOOOOO nervous Does anyone have any advice for me? Yes, I freak out about small things!
Yeah, it's that time of year here too. But for some strange reason we're not having Precussion auditions this year.

I was in band when I was in 6th and 7th grade, I played the trumpet. Band got boring after a while,

I am trying out for band. You have each instrument and for me all the clarinets go in and play for the teacher and then they put you into a chair. Like 1st chair is the best and last chair is the worst. So yeah I am hoping for 3rd,2nd, or 1st. I was 4th last year.

I know, but I do competitive dance and it is a lot of practicing. I want to do cheerleading and musicals in high school. I will probably still play it though. My mom played the clarinet and my uncle did. Well my uncle played everything he is a middle school band teacher!
I play the clarinet. but I am not going to in high school.
I have been playing since I was 8. 9 years.
Why not? High school band is a lot of fun. And you can get good college scholarships through band.

Thanks, I don't really LOVE band. I am a flag in the flag core but for Christmas concert we have to do chair tryouts. thanks for the fingering idea. I will be practicing all weekend!!!!!
No problem.
I go through the same thing every year. I play trumpet.

If you aren't going to be able to practice, at least go over the fingerings. The more comfortable with the fingerings you are, the easier it will be to actually play it. And try to stay calm, and focused. If you get nervous about it, you may freeze up when actually playing it. And practice is the key to getting better, so as soon as you are able to, practice, practice, practice.

See, I don't really like band, especially marching, (sorry to those who like marching band or band in general) so I'm only taking it next semester so I'm going to get last chair no matter what.
Then again, there are only like two of us so it doesn't really matter to me.
