The First Snow
Posted Fri, 06/19/2009 - 18:07 — Unit7The character Samantha Jennings Christensen was inspired by KateinCA, after I saw her in her Red Nerd Glasses. I struggled for awhile to come up with a story. But I finally found her a place as John Blackwood's future stepdaughter. A character I have been planning to use in a number of stories. But this is just about Samantha.
The First Snow.
Samantha looked downwards as she walked, the sound of rustling leaves filled her ears. She placed her hands in the pockets of her light green hoodie, hoping to keep her hands warm. She started to wish she had worn a heavier jacket, but it was to late to go back. She looked up for a moment, adjusted her over sized red horned rimmed glasses, and looked both ways. Not a single car in sight.
The worry and nervousness in his voice kept Samantha from going on. He sounded like he was in some sort of trouble. She couldn't let it slide, not after everything he had helped her through. A strong chill wind whipped at her dark brown hair. She pulled her hands out of the pocket, and struggled to raise the hood. With a final effort, and just as the wind died, she managed. Before her hands returned to her pockets, she felt her ears, freezing.
She trudged on, and when she came to Adam's houses she noticed his parents weren't home. She dashed up the steps and began pounding on the door, she wanted out of the cold. A few moments passed and Adam opened the door, his eyes almost mournful.
“Hey,” He said gesturing Samantha to come in.
“So whats the problem?” Samantha said shivering in an exaggerated manner. “You sounded like you were in trouble? You didn't break another one of your mothers vases did you?”
“Of course not!” Adam said defensively, “besides you were the one who broke it.” Samantha walked through the entry way and into the living room. The memories of how the vase was broken playing clearly in her mind. They had been in the living room wrestling with each other and bumped into the stand.
“Well whats wrong?” Samantha said as she pulled her hoodie off and tossing it onto the couch.
“Nothing... I just wanted to talk.” He said quietly. Samantha adjusted her black and pink striped arm warmers and then turned around and looked Adam in the eyes. Adam was slightly taller then Samantha, forcing her to lean her head back a little.
“What about?” Samantha said plopping down on the couch. She couldn't stand his mournful eyes any longer. He laughed a little and sat down next to her. Samantha took his hands into her, and quickly released it. He shifted slightly in his spot and glanced over at Samantha.
“Anything,” he said slowly.
“Oh come on your the one who invited me over!” Samantha said.
“Fine, why do you always wear those stupid glasses?” He shouted. Samantha cringed, it wasn't like Adam to be like this.
“Because they look sexy, amirite?” She said, taking them off and biting one of the ends. Adam laughed.
“Yeah they do,” Adam placed his arm around Samantha and she instantly curled up against him. For awhile they sat like this. Samantha could hear his heart beat, and feel the tension in him. Something was off.
She uncurled herself and stood up. She slowly took his hand, and tugged for him to stand up. He looked up at Samantha, his dark brown eyes growing even sadder. She bit her lip, the way Adam had professed he found sexy. She slowly led up him the stairs and into his room. His room was small, clean, and relaxed. She smiled back at him as she led him to the bed.
“what are we doing?” He mumbled. To reply, Samantha pressed her lips against his. For a moment they kissed.
“Your parents wont be home for awhile, right?” She said seductively into his ear.
“No, they had to take Adrian somewhere,” he said. Samantha pushed Adam onto his bed making an audible noise. He laid back down, but he didn't smile. “Samantha...” Adam said. Samantha ignored him. She took her glasses off and tossed them on a nearby chair. She then joined him on the bed and straddled her boyfriend. She leaned in closer and passionately kissed him. When she realized her passion wasn't being reciprocated she broke it.
“Whats your problem?” She demanded. They stared at each other for a moment, and Adam slowly began to cry.
“I... I'm...” He turned his head away.
“Your what?” Samantha said, starting to feel embarrassed.
“I think I'm gay...” He mumbled. Samantha let out a gasp and quickly got off him. Samantha tried to suppress the tears and the pain she felt in her heart.
“For the lulz?” She said choked with emotion. “Your parents would fre-”
“Damn it Sam, this isn't one of your stupid hacker things.” Adam sat up.
“What the hell then?” Samantha shouted. “You don't find me attractive anymore?”
“I think your beautiful its just...” Adam mumbled. Samantha laid down, and stared at the ceiling.
“But not sexually appealing?” Samantha said coldly. Adam stood up and paced in front of the bed. His fists were clenched tight. Samantha did her best to try and ignore him, she suddenly wished she had a firewall for her heart. “How long?” She said, more to herself then anyone.
“two months,” he said. He stopped for a moment and casted a glance towards Samantha. Their eyes locked for a moment, and then he continued to walk.
“You knew you were gay and you still slept with me?” Samantha turned on her side and slightly curled up. “You seemed pretty exci-” Samantha paused, “You were thinking about men when you were with me? You bastard.” Samantha hid her face in the crook of her arm.
“Damnit Samantha, this isn't about you its about me!” Adam turned his back on Samantha as he spoke. Anger, pain, and sorrow filled Samantha's small frame, and exploded within her.
“Go to hell” Samantha said. She jumped out of the bed, swiped the glasses of the table and left the room. As she ran down the stairs she could hear Adam calling out to her, but she ignored him. She hurriedly found and pulled the hoodie over her body. Before she left the house, she slammed the door. She loved how it sounded, but then she stumbled backwards, sliding down the door. Tears were freely sliding down her cheeks, and falling to the floor.
She turned her head to the sky. High above dark grey clouds drifted passed peacefully. She sat like that, her face turned to the heavens for several minutes. She hated her emotions right then, why couldn't people be like programs? She could hack into the military computers, cause chaos on the nets, but she hadn't the clue what to do next. A single snow flake, lazily drifted down from the heaven and landed on her nose. Her eyes darted to the tip of her nose, only getting a brief look before it melted. The first snow of winter, how fitting. Samantha thought dully. The memories of last winter came back to her.
Every year the school held an indoor carnival. The whole school transformed from a functioning school, to a giant play house. Each classroom, for that weekend only, each had some activity. Samantha had her reluctance in going, but finally being tricked into it by John Blackwood, her mother's boyfriend. It was thanks to him she met Adam. He was in charge of the dunk booth being held in one of the Gyms. He was sitting on the chair, taunting everyone.
“Hey you in the grammatically incorrect shirt!” Adam shouted. Samantha looked around, and then down at her own shirt. She was wearing a all black shirt with the phrase 'All Your Base Are Belong To Us.” Samantha pointed to herself, trying to stifle a giggle. “Yeah you! You look like you could dunk me.” He tossed a baseball down to Samantha, who only barely caught it. Adam laughed. “Or not.”
“You will regret that,” she mumbled. She threw the ball and missed it completely. Instead it hit the gymnastics mat.
“Oh yeah I'm really regretting it.” He teased. Samantha's left hand slowly reached in the back of her pocket, then allowed her hand to go limp. Adam tossed another ball down at Samantha. The ball dropped to the floor and rolled away. Samantha looked up at him, biting her lip.
“Your not going to seduce me into getting dunked,” Adam said grinning.
“Oh shut up,” Samantha said trying not to laugh. “toss me another.”
“You are going to catch it, right?” Adam said, and then tossed another baseball down towards her. “last chance,” he reminded her. Samantha stood there for a moment, and threw the baseball with all her might. This time she missed the gymnastics mat altogether. There was a loud groan.
“Sorry John,” Samantha said trying not to laugh. John bent over and picked up the ball, he turned around and slowly walked towards her. His face, having a large scar cutting diagonally down his face, looked fierce. He tossed the ball up into the air, and caught it. He repeated the motion several times.
“What I do?” John said sounding seriously. Samantha froze for a second, she had forgotten how serious he could be.
“Nothing, just felt like hitting you,” She said after awhile, smiling.
“Fair enough.” He laughed and gently tossed the baseball towards Samantha. She caught it. “Have fun.” She turned her attention from John, who had his eyes on another carnival game, back to Adam. He looked down at her, smiling.
“Well?” Adam said, “give it your best chance.” Samantha took aim, and threw the ball. The ball flew through the air and slammed into what she thought was the trigger. Samantha grinned and then she realized she didn't hear a splash, but instead of a howling laughter.
“What the hell?” Samantha demanded. “This is rigged!”
“Not at all, just this morning I was dunked by an old lady.” Adam said, grinning ear to ear.
“Whats the trick?” Samantha asked, trying to suppress her anger.
“No trick,” Adam smiled. “You are on the wrong side, thats all.” Samantha stood there, not able to process what she just learned. She looked around in shock. She looked to her right, and found a similar looking trigger on the other side.
“I demand my money back,” Samantha said, gritting her teeth.
“Can't do that,” Adam said.
“Why not?” She asked.
“You didn't pay yet.” Adam laughed. For a moment Samantha stood there feeling even more foolish, then she smiled. Then she grinned. She looked down and shook her head in disbelief. It was true, she hadn't paid. Her left hand found her cellphone in her back pocket. She flipped the screen open and her thumbs quickly typing in the correct commands. When it was done, she closed her cellphone, and walked away. She left the building and sat on one of the benches in front of the school, a perfect view of her work. Just as she got comfortable, she looked down at her cellphone. 3, 2, 1. The fire alarms filled the night air. She smiled as dozens of drenched people stormed out of the building. She scanned the crowed and finally found Adam, who was soaked from head to toe. A towel, now wet, hung around his shoulders.
“I guess you got out just before it went off?” he said as he walked over. Samantha just smiled.
“Yeah you could say that,” Samantha said trying to sound casual. She ignored the chaos that was around them and focused on Adam.
“Hey who was that dude in the trench coat?” Adam said shivering fiercely. “The one you were talking to?”
“John, he is my moms boyfriend, why?” Samantha asked, her curiosity sparked.
“He dunked me first go.” Adam said, she cursed under his breath. “damn what idiot pulls the fire alarm during winter.” Samantha just smiled, no need to tell him her victory. “Oh thats right!” He pulled out a red oversized pair of horned rimmed glasses. “This is your prize.”
“I didn't dunk you though,” Samantha said protesting.
“Yeah well then call it a gift,” Adam said smiling. Samantha blushed as she accepted the gift. She placed them on. At first they felt weird, but soon she found herself loving them.
“They make me look sexy, amirite?” She said smiling. Adam laughed. They sat like that as the fire engines pulled up, teachers and parents trying to calm the unruly children. Samantha looked up towards the night sky, dark clouds drifting peacefully by, unaware of the problems thousands of feet below. The first snows of winter began to fall.
Samantha woke from her memory, and as she stood up she wiped the tears away. The snow was falling faster, and more fiercely now. She slowly walked down the steps, and down the sidewalk. Before she Adam's yard, she looked up towards his bedroom window. He was sitting at the window, looking down at her. She gave a small wave of good bye, and began to force her way through the on coming storm.
The End.
This actually turned out alot different then I expected. I had only planned on doing a brief thing about the Carnival. But I was enjoying the thing between Samantha and Adam a bit to much. If you were curious Samantha often uses internet slang(such as amirite, lulz, and other text speak and such) in real life. Mostly because she finds it amusing when people get annoyed by it.
She is a hacker, who is quite capable, but is very much nooby. Also she dislikes losing.
Anyways I hoped you enjoyed the first story featuring Samantha.

ha! Here it is. *Does a happy dance*
Dude I have a terrible habbit of making sad and depressing endings.
Oh... my... God... I just realized how awesome that last sentence is. I mean I never noticed how brilliant that was. Getting over a breakup can be like a storm and while its about to storm in the story she has to face an even more violent storm that is breaking up. How I am brilliant, even if my mind isn't aware of it.
OK I am done bumping up old stories. But when I read Melissa broke up it reminded me of this story and when I looked to find it in my documents it was not there. I was like 'noooo!' and so I thought I dig it up and find it again. Though I suppose an easier method would be to have gone to my fictionpress account...
Oh well. It gives those new to the site a chance to see my brilliance!
Oh and I wonder if the Mods are aware of the Time Bug? If you look back far enough the time the topic was created and the time it was last posted in are exactly the same.

I still have Legion to finish. But I was also going to explore how John Blackwood entered her and her mothers life. I also have to explore Rick, even though he was only mentioned once in Legion.
Of course there was Legions original plot...
So yeah I definitely going to write alot more with Samantha
