I know I may be opening a terrible can of worms by doing this based on the hostility of the abortion threads, but I figured I'd ask. What do you think about gay marriage being legal?

My personal view is that gay marriage should be 100% legal because these people are being denied a basic right as Americans. Whether specific churches choose to recognize the union is up to them, but as far as the government goes I think it should be legal.

What do you think?

Marriage has nothing to do with "god" and all to do with society. A person should be able to be legally and officially bonded to whoever they love and wish. People should NOT be ostracized because of how they are born, are you friggin HITLER? If sin truely existed, I'm sure blind hate because of extreme indoctrination and gullability would be on the list.
If a person who happens to be homosexual wishes to marry another homosexual person, he same way as two heterosexual people why shouldn't they? They should be afforded the right to be traditionally married.
Oh and what makes you think your "god" can dictate peoples lives? Who says your god even exists?

The unfortunate thing is that religion seems to blind people making them think "god" dictates people's lives when in reality every choice they make should not be what the bible says but more of what their brain and heart say, religion should not have much say in people's life decisions but sadly it does for a lot...

Definitely should be legal because I see no reason why is should be illegal.

Ha this post reminds me being at the bus stop earlier. I was in a swarm of protesters that were screaming, "No gay marriage, think of the children!" They were driving around honking about it and screaming about it and I soon got irritated to the point where I told one of them to shut the *** up and get out of ear with their ***. Soon they started coming towards me screaming and that's when I became more calm and said, "Seriously get the *** out my face cuz I don't like people in my face." Soon they backed off and started yelling at more people about the gays. And then one of the male protesters really tried to come up to me and hit on me (he showed up after my confrontation with the other protesters). And I just told him I didn't date bigots. That's when he backed up off me too.

God I'm not understanding why people are protesting and being against gay marriage when it's not really legal across the US.

That is really horrible that there are people like that today! Everyone needs to stick to their own beliefs and stop trying to beat someone up or whatever because they have different beliefs because it's ridiculous! I'm straight but I think gay marriage should be legal. Everyone deserves to be happy with the person they are with, whether it's a man and a woman, two women, two men, two women and a man, or two men and a woman. If that's what they want, then it's not affecting me. I have a friend who is bisexual and I still love her the same. I may not completely buy the whole bisexual thing,(no offense) but I'm not gonna protest against it and I'm not gonna attack anyone because of it. I'm still gonna respect what everyone believes in.

Don't worry plenty of people don't believe in bisexuality but to me it makes perfect sense. I know me personally I just find an attractive person attractive no matter what sex. I honestly think majority of the population is at least a little bisexual or at least bicurious.

One of my best friend's dad is gay, and I have nothing against him. Do you I respect his personal choices that would be a no, but I do respect him. And yes I think being gay is a personal choice, mainly because of him.

And I don't know why but something about 2 guys tongue wrestling makes me want to gag. Though I don't feel the same about ladies. Go figure.

I was actually going to put this poster on my wall but my parents would be giving me the "I hope you're not a lesbian talk" all over again so I'ma wait till I move out to buy it.

But yeah I felt the same about two men kissing for awhile too but since my best friend is gay and I've witnessed him with his past partners before, I'm pretty used to seeing it to the point it's like whatever.

Wait... what?

At one point in time these were, very sadly, part of the norm. Its just how it WORKED. Yet all of these things were later changed. Slavery was ended(well its not legal anyways) People findally realised that those Witches were not actually witches. Women... well we had the Feminist movement, no? Holocaust was finally put to an end.

Just because this is how it works now, doesn't mean it's right. Lets examine some of the more harmless examples.

Internet. It was used soley for military communication. It eventually went public and when computers became cheaper and more affordable it slowly went from military, to underground, to a full blown pandemic. Its to the point where our very phones are just tiny computers.

But for all intents and purposes, it worked just fine as a means of communication.

Actually thats all I can think of right now.

But my point is simple. Just because it works the way it does now, doesn't mean its right or even OK. Is it ok to deny the rights to innocent people? Not cool man, not cool.

Maybe she is like me. I have gay friends and relatives, and personally I would see nothing wrong with it. But, I obey my faith first so I have to follow God. I do think they should have good civil unions and should never be subject to hate and ridicule.

Hmmm. Actually there are rights given to couples that singles do not get. One example is, ALL people should have the same rights in cases such as inheritance etc.

Oh Dawn, I do believe in gay marriage! I see nothing wrong with it.

My mom's best friend is gay. Since we've known him for so long, we consider him part of the family. He was my sister and I's babysitter when we were younger. I guess that's why I have nothing against gay people.

Thats the main problem, as far as I can see, about Civil Unions and Marriage. Civil Unions do not grant them the same rights and privelages(sp) as a marriage would. I think a Civil Union should have the exact same benifits as to married couple. Though I still think they should beable to get married under the law.

I think it should be legal. I have no problem with it. Yes, the Bible is against it, but isn't the Bible also all about the golden rule: treat others how you would like to be treated?

That's probably not the way I should view this, but that's a simple version of how I see it.

Brown Eyes. I read what you said in the other thread, which I will squelch since you have this one. I also tell you in spite of the difficulty of determining tone and expression, that I will not intentionally be mean to you either.

Here is the stuff in answer to someone's question about bible verses. These are mostly New Testament ones and are not involving ritual prostitution:

This is for people who wonder where the bible verses about Homosexuality.

I am sure some of you will call it homophobia for me to post this. That is your opinion and to call me homophobic would be mistruth. For you who have been on here long, know I have gay friends and family members, who I love very much. And I still love them. My church teaches that the ACTION is what is wrong, not the Being. It teaches that we must love our gay brothers and sisters and not to hate them or harm them. (To be fair, some of my gay friends disagree with biblical teachings, but are still my friends and love me as well. It is like people sitting down to eat together, one may eat chicken and the other fish, but if they are civilized, they still can relate and have a nice meal.)

The other side is that the church also teaches us not to do this action. It also teaches us not to eat too much (which is a far more common sin, one that I battle daily.) The point is, that things are taught, not because God is mean, but because He knows what is most healthy for us. The thing is all of us sin. The thing is we know what God told us. After this, because of free will, the decision is ours.

Here are the verses some asked to see:
Lev. 18:22, "You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination."1

1 Cor. 6:9-10, "Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God."

Rom. 1:26-28, "For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 27and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. 28And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper."

For you who are not bible believers, then you can just disregard what I wrote as is your option.
