The Secret Life vs. Degrassi
Posted Thu, 07/02/2009 - 12:56 — Biblekid1I like both of these shows and I was wondering wat other ppl thought of them. And if anyone wants 2 compare characters. I'll go 1st. Manny vs. Amy. They both got pregnant at a young age. The difference is that Manny had an abortion and Amy kept her baby.
i loveee degrassi. i only just started watching a few weeks ago, but its definitely my favorite show. and for me, its totally better than secret life. it covers so many issues in realistic ways.

I have not really seen Degrassi. I saw a couple of episodes. However from your comments Degrassi seems like a good show.

Between the two...Secret Life. But, I have other shows I choose over Secret Life, like Dexter, the Tudors, Army Wives.

I like both but Degrassi is better cause it deals with all problems teens have and doesn't just talk about sex. The characters also have a lot more to them.

This last part is definitely why Degrassi is better. They managed to juggle 10+ characters, each with their own problems their own goals and their own personalities. Each one feels like a real person you could easily meet on the streets. I also loved how all their stories are unique, yet all have a connection together.

i like both shows but i dont like degrassi so much anymore because all of the good characters are gona so secret life is better compared to the new degrassi. but theyre both godd when degrassi has all old characters in it.
I personally like Degrassi better, but that's because I've been watching the show longer and also because it revolves around more than just sex.
As far as Manny vs. Amy is concerned: yeah, I guess that comparison could be made. I don't really see Amy matching up with anyone else. However, I think Manny is far more "experienced" in life than Amy. Manny made mistakes and moved on. Amy sort of dwells on her problems and complains a lot.
What do you think about: Ben vs. JT (in his younger years), Adrian vs. Paige, and Grace vs. Darcy? Obviously, there are significant differences, but I see a few comparisons; not so much in situation as in demeanor.

Yeah Degrassi is better but I stopped watching it when J.T died and all the main characters started to leave.

I love Degrassi! I just started watching and it's becoming one of my favorite shows. But I still like Secret Life. They are a tie! Cannot wait for the newest episode tomorrow!

Degrassi is much better than Secret Life. Its been my favorite show ever since it first came out. I can't wait for the new episode tomorrow. It looks very good!
I also like Gossip Girl. Thats a pretty good show too.

Degrassi is so much better. There really isn't any competition. Degrassi covers so much more, and to me is way more realistic. And also, the acting is a lot better. This season started to get a little bad, but I think that is just because the main characters are slowly disappearing, and the show is becoming something else.
Secret Life and Degrassi are both great shows, but Degrassi tops Secret Life by a lot.

I don't watch it. I did when it first came out, but I was like 7 or 8. I liked it, but when someone on the show had sex, I was like, "Ew! This show is gross!" So I stopped watching. Remember: I was really little. And I'm too lazy to watch it now. There are so many episodes, and I don't have time to watch it all. But I would like to.

I hate watching shows when they have shown a bunch of episodes already. The only acceptions were Gossip Girl and Secret Life (i no u r probably suprised but I missed the first season or first half of the season and then a few days before the second premiered I watched all 11 episodes on youtube. haha my sis was watching it though and she would talk about it sometimes and go "she might get an abortion" and i would be like "shes not going to get an abortion that would cancl the show!" even though I had no idea what was going on lol)

Its alot easier when the series has a more stand alone type of feel going on such as Degrassi. you don't need to have seen the majority of the episodes to enjoy 1. Though there is 1 exception to this in the series.
To fully appreciate the whole Rick Story Arc, you need to see the couple episodes him and Terri and Rick dated...

Yeah. I never saw the episodes were Rick and Terri went out. I know he pushed her into a rock and she went into a coma. And then everyone was mad so he went nuts and brought a gun to school. And then shot Jimmy making him paralyzed. Right? LOL

I dont watch a whole lot of Degrassi, but I watched a little bit of it. From what Ive seen Im going to have to say Degrassi may be better when it comes to putting more issues that teens face, like what everyone else said. But I watch Secret Life more and gotten more into that.

I agree. Since Degrassi came from them being in 7th and 8th grade up to them being in college, you got to know the characters. And unlike Secret Life the characters have a lot to them. There's no bad or good character because they all have good and bad to them. Also they've dealt with more than sex unlike the Secret Life. There's been drugs, rape, sex, pregnancy, sexual identity, racism, homophobia, classism, stripping, prostitution, drinking, reputations, cheating, STD's, sexism etc. etc. etc. The list goes and on. Also Degrassi does a good job showing issues without having a judgmental light on the characters and their decisions in my opinion. Plus you can see how the characters have all grown from their situations like Manny's grown a lot as well as Emma, Spinner, Paige, Marco, Ellie, and others. And now they have new kids on the show that you can now get to know as well.
And if you want to say who's better Manny or Amy I will say Manny. She's always been my favorite on the show because she went from cute, to hot, to scandalous, and now she's on her way to becoming a mature adult. I like how she's grown and she kinda reminds me of myself. Also Amy doesn't have as much depth as Manny's character or any Degrassi character for that matter. Oh and Manny is extremely hot and she has such good style. Even during her scandalous stage I loved her clothes.

Degrassi was so much better. I stopped watching after season 7. Degrassi was much more real and covered more issues than just sex.
