we're doing something different
what's up with 25 days of christmas being so early this year?
Posted Wed, 11/04/2009 - 17:02 — michelledabellthey're starting it THIS tuesday?
it's the start of NOVEMBER, not december
they usually start it on dec 1 and end on the 25th...thats why it's called 25 days of christmas. how is it going to be 25 days of christmas when its more than a month away?
yeah, i don't care for this change

there will be new movies in december for the 25 days of christmas event that is not shown in the countdown to the 25 days of christmas.
ok then. a countdown for a countdown. or whatever you want to call it...its an occasion for an occasion.
but heres a question: what are they supposed to do through december? i mean they could repeat the movies, but that'd be kind of weird.
and i agree, i hate seeing christmas or any holiday stuff out when its too early OR late.
people take your halloween decorations down!

Technically it's a countdown. It's not starting yet. It starts after the countdown lol
tuesday is the start of the countdown to the 25 days of christmas event not the 25 days of chistmas event that starts on december 1 hope that helps.
My question:
This event is 25 Days of Christmas. Why do we have 25 days to celebrate Christmas, but no event for Hanukkah. Considering this is a family network, I would think it would be based on the holidays, and not just Christmas. I know there are not many Hanukkah movies, but still, give the event a different tittle.
I know this is nothing new, but it has been bothering me.
Okay I'm done ranting now.

That's because you have been brainwashed by the pc culture to have a certain picture of the world and how it should be. But the reality of it not just normal reality but market reality is that the majority rules. The vast majority of people celebrate Christmas therefore Christmas is the big deal. Minorities are mentioned only when someone sees an opportunity to make a profit or on a local level where minorities are the majorities.
Personally I don't really see why it would bother you. If it was me I would be rather happy that society and the market is not messing with my culture
Through the darkness of future past, the magician longs to see, one chance out between two worlds, fire walk with me!
Because the whole PC just [filtered word] me off.
That and there is evidence to suggest that AbcFamily is more Christian then any of the other religions. Atleast it was intended more for it anyways. If I understand correctly when Disney got their hands on the network there were 2 specific things. 1) the network HAD to keep the name Family in it. Which as we all know led to the wide misconception that its supposed to be a 'family' network(which it was never supposed to be) 2) That they would broadcast The 700 Club in the mornings and at night. Which is a Christian based News Magazine.
I am sure there were other things Disney had to agree to before they could use the network, but the last one suggests that the sellers wanted to keep the network somewhat Christian.

I've been wondering the same thing. I wish they would do that, even though I celebrate Christmas. It seems kinda rude to not do anything for other holidays around the same time as Christmas.

In my opinion, it is disrespectful to people with other religions, who don't celebrate Christmas, to have a full 25 days(and a countdown before that) to celebrate Christmas, but nothing for other holidays.
And I could't care less if they have a whole special thing for other holidays or not, I just feel that they should change the name of the event if they aren't going to do something for other holidays.

I agree. It bothers me that they don't do that. I've never understood why Christmas always has more importance over Hannakuh and Kwanzaa.

Why do Christmas, Kwanzaa, and Hannakuh get more attention then say Boxing Day? I mean a good portion of the world seems to celebrate it but I only found out about it just now.
Oh you know what else? Feast of our Lady of Guadalupe. We should celebrate that this year to. Its celebrated in Mexico... but then I suppose it is Christian...
Winter Solstice is also celebrated by tons of people around the world. Which comes with tons of celebrations surrounding that time of the year.
Point is that... to try and be correct they should represent ALL celebrations around the world that take place during December.
Otherwise its disrespectful.
Also, I find it disrespectful that both of you failed to try and name them and went for the three major ones .
How could you be so disrespectful towards all these groups?
Anyways I hope you have a great Brumallia this year
Heres a list of a bunch of different festivals and celebrations during the Winter Solstice alone.

Well you will have to go to the part about Observances. But yeah.

I find it funny that [ancient] Greece would have a holiday/festival honoring a Greek God of Wine who was said to be a big drunk!
Of course, maybe Ancient Greece was like Ireland today, big on drinking!

Actually Dionysus is much more complicated then a simple God of Wine. They are even theories that Jesus was based on Dionysus. They are professors out there who can bore your for hours with the significance of Dionysus

Hey my bud Dionysus just like to have a good time. Although he is one of the few Gods who just loves to party(I suppose Zues could fall into this, but mostly just with himself and one lucky girl) he is also the God of Agriculture and Theater. So he does have a more important role then getting drunk

I apologize for leaving those out
I'm too tired to think of adding other holidays I don't hear about (or have never heard of). I was just picking the obvious ones around Christmas time.

So just because you don't try and learn about other cultures, they should be neglected?

The 25 Days of Christmas is NOT a Countdown. Its a single event on abc family that spans from Dec 1 to Dec 25. If it was a countdown it would be labeled as such '25 Days TILL Christmas.' The OF part suggest the idea that they are celebrating the idea of Christmas 25 days.
So really, there is no countdown for a countdown. Just a countdown for an event, no different then any other countdown.

i was thinking the same thing... but the way I was wording it in my head made completely no sense so I was just waiting for you to explain it more clearly!

Its the countdown to the countdown of 25 days of Christmas, which is stupid because like a couple others said, why do we need a countdown for a countdown? Does that make sense? No. I hate already seeing christmas commercials now, I wouldnt mind it if we got through Thanksgiving already. Too early.
♥He's a good time cowboy casanova♥
Well you could view 25 days of Christmas not as a countdown, but a 25 day event celebrating the idea of christmas and such. I never really got the impression that 25 Days of Christmas was a countdown, the title doesn't suggest it, there is no real countdown at all.

Unit it right and I agree with Sam. Why is there a countdown for a countdown? I hate that I'm already seeing Christmas commercials. I wish we could get through Thankgiving before all the other holiday stuff comes out.

I bet the businesses are loving it! I think the reason why we start seeing things get Christmassy right after Halloween for the businesses that hope to make profit to remind us common people Christmas is on it's way... This year should be easy since all the adults of the family (minus grandma) are doing Secret Santa so I just need to buy for the adult I chose (my cousin-in-law), my mom, and the 3 kids of the family and my grandma!

I'm sure they are loving it. They always start commercials right after Halloween. It drives my whole family crazy. We went to get our flu shots in early October and they were already putting out wrapping paper. I couldn't believe it. I have no idea who I'm buying presents for. I have a huge family, so we don't get something for everyone.

Like Unit said, it is a countdown to the 25 days of Christmas. Although why we need a countdown to a countdown, I do not understand.

Some people are just overly anxious for Christmas! my friend, Sunny starts her countdown to Christmas the day after Christmas... (She's one of the one's that are severely anxious for Christmas... funny thing is she's going on 41)
I'm with you though... doesn't make sense (Of course Christmas isn't my top holiday either...)
