The unexpected history of Patrick Verona

now, we got MONTHS to go, but i was curious of what you all thought his "unexpected" history might be all about?
When I first saw the picture of him and that man, I automatically assumed that was his father. I also thought that his father may be an alcoholic now and Patrick keeps a picture of them to remember how it used to be before things turned sour. These were just my initial thoughts, i'm sure the real deal will probably be completely different than what we expect.
This is just my thoughts:
I think with the whole Pat being really careful with that keychange is that Patrick's dad passed away or is really mean now a days, and his mom is gone too or is remarried, I think Pat used to be a really bright, and friendly person, but then he's changed into this "everyone thinks im werid" type of person because that's just how he copes with everything that has happened to him....

Maybe he's like emancipated or something. For some reason we know his dad is important bacause of the picture Kat saw. But we also know his parents might not be in the picture bacause during the fire he was the only one who showed up. Now whether they are not in his life sometimes or not in his life at all nobody knows. But he does drive a pretty expensive bike. So maybe he does have money. Maybe his dad did die and thats why he relates so much to Kat?
OMG there are so many theories I can't wait to see what happens! Only like 3 months left! Hurry up writers I'm going insane!
Okay so the beach is meaningful, I totally agree. Let's make this a kind of commentary on society today. Let's say that his dad divorced his mom because she was a work-a-holic so he went to live with his dad and maybe they lived by the beach or something like that. Then his dad died unexpectedly so he had to go and live with his mother who he pretty much despises. Then in the next season we could find these things out and Kat could teach him how he should try to get along with his mother because Kat misses her mom.
I think that's like dead on! I just think he and his dad were just, I don't know, like best friends or something really really close though

alot of people have been saying that they don't think he's living with his parents but i think that he just might. maybe his dad is dead(i say dad because of the keychain thing we saw)and his mom is an alcoholic or something and he's just affected by that.

I agree with you about his dad but maybe his mom works alot or maybe she works two jobs because she is the only one to support the family so she is never around. ???
I'll give it a go...
Let's say that Patrick's three invitations to the beach were meaningful. Was he brought up by hippies on the beach? Spent his childhood on a sailboat criss-crossing the globe? Grew up on a marine research station?
Or possibly in episode 10 when Kat said that she wanted to save the world and Patrick said something like "you sound just like them" he was referring to his parents. Maybe they were global aid workers who were killed. Or even currently working in a part of the world so dangerous, they wouldn't take him?
I agree with several of the previous posters...I don't think he is living with his parents. (although if he is, it would certainly be unexpected!!!)
anyway, I can't wait to find out!

Maybe his parents are nice people.
maybe he's rich and has parents that love him...now THAT would be unexpected and maybe he thinks that what his parents do for a living is (idk the word) not worthy of his respect and he rebels by the way he dresses and riding a motorcycle. that can also be why he was so disappointed in Kat for giving in...its unlikely but just an opinion.
