What really happened?
Posted Tue, 09/29/2009 - 05:04 — IWatch2MuchTVDoes anyone know what actually happened with the Gilmore Girls ending? I'm interested to know not only the reason(s) why it was decided that the series would end after seven seasons, but also what occured that made season seven so detached from the others. As far as I see Amy and Dan Palladino are no longer writing the episodes, and I know that has to change things quite a bit; however Amy Sherman-Palladino still has an executive producer credit on there, (unless it's just for show) and I would have thought she would have had a hand and a voice in the season. During an "extras" interview for the DVDs Keiko Agena who plays Lane says, and I'm paraphrasing here from my foggy brain, "it's so great to be a part of something that is so thought out, Amy Sherman-Palladino told the cast that she knows what the last line of the series will be...not the season, the series." I would be shocked if the last line in the series finale truly was what Amy had been planning. Almost all of season seven seem just slightly off to me, not in the usual flowy Amy and Dan style. The diologue is still rapid fire but without as many catch them if you can references of all subject matter and not as much humor and wit. It seems almost dumbed down and as if the network, producers, writers (again I'm asking if someone knows the story) tried to make it more mainstream. It seems to me as if the show may have gotten a makeover for season seven and then got cancelled part way through, forcing the writers to try and end it too quickly. I would love to know if anyone knows anything about how or why the show ended, or heck...I'm up for hearing your opinions as well, maybe you disagree with me and that's cool too. I have always had a knack for catching discrepencies in TV/Film, I think I would make a good editor. I seem to always notice if someone's hair was different or something moved, and those little things will be in every show or picture; but I was a little put off by some of the plot that didn't match up to the character's meticulously created past along with some plot/diologue that just didn't really make sense for the characters and the show. It's almost as if the new writers didn't give old viewers enough credit. As I said before it felt dumbed down which may have brought in a new section of audience (which may have been the point-did they need higher ratings to keep the show?) however the writers should not have turned a blind eye and ignored the fan base that was already there. In my opinion, if you watched from the very beginning, season seven was a let down and the series finale, disappointing.
