ARMY: 781229 Standard GI Supplies (NYC's First Post)

ATTENTION MODERATORS: PLEASE DO NOT DELETE THIS THREAD
IT CONTAINS VALUABLE INFORMATION FOR NEW "SEARCH FOR 781229" PLAYERS
Thanks!

NOTE TO ARMY PERSONNEL:
ABC Family has indicated that the Search for 781229 won't be returning until January 2009, along with everything else Kyle XY-related. (Season 3, DVD, and now the Game.)

Stay tuned for more info.

Thought some people"just tuning in" on the "Search for 781229" could use some guidance and a few virtual supplies.

First of all, an overview:

The "Search for 781229" is an Alternate Reality Game. (ARG) The goal of the game is to find and free a girl being held captive. There are no indications that this ARG character will "cross over" onto the show. Our search is led by Cooper_29, ABC Family's "Uberfan" for the Kyle XY show. Cooper sometimes stops in on the boards, but usually uses his blog to communicate. www.781229.com

The girl in question is the "next generation" of biocomputers produced by Madacorp in 2006. The name of the project that created her was "Project Cassandra." Apparently, she escaped Madacorp during the fall of 2006 and spent two months in Seattle, WA in a foster home. They gave her the name "Jane McBride."

The first two biocomputers were Kyle (781227, XY) and Jessi (781228, XX) from the Kyle XY show.

Some links for you to bookmark if you want to "enlist":

Cooper's Blog:
http://www.781229.com
This is the main site from which clues in the ARG are issued. The site is owned and operated by Disney/ABC and hosted by Cooper (aka: Cooper_29) who is a self-proclaimed "uber fan" of Kyle XY. He is more likely a Disney/ABC employee.

Cooper's Recap:
http://www.781229.com/coopersblog/?page_id=272
This is a quick overview of the game scenarios that have already been played out. It's good to read because it explains how the original clues were communicated. The links still work, so you can see what we saw months ago when this started.

Latnok Society Links:
http://www.latnok.com -or-
http://www.latnoksociety.org
http://www.latnoksociety.org/help-her/
This site is owned and operated by Disney/ABC Family. There have been several versions of the site; the current one does not allow logins. Prior versions allowed you to sign up for a mailing list and play games. The most interesting page on the site is the one that proposed the existence of 781229 and let us see pictures of her. This link was the final prize for playing the Cluetracker 2.0 game to the end.

Madacorp Site Links:
http://www.madacorp.com

This site is owned and operated by Disney/ABC. It was originally revealed through a TV commercial played during a handful of Kyle XY episodes. Earlier versions also allowed you to sign up and log in, even let you "apply for jobs" available through the site. It was revamped and there are now only two working logins:

ID: Jonathon_Lamont PW: cognition135790
ID: _tephen_trager_sea PW: dodecahedron144

The first user is Cassandra's keeper. His ID was recently upgraded, so logging in reveals all of the documents and projects we've been able to uncover so far.

The second user is apparently Stephen Trager's old ID. Most of the information links are blocked by "security" but there might be a need for it in the future.

There was a "back door" method to access all the files and graphics, but it's now closed so we have to use the login menus. (I suspect we were finishing the tasks too quickly in the game.)

781229 Wiki:
http://781229.scribblewiki.com/Main_Page
http://781229.scribblewiki.com/Mada_Corporation
http://781229.scribblewiki.com/Research_Progress

A board member, Sakuralein, set up this wiki for us to use in our research. This was done mainly because this board had become unreliable and had no way for us to upload and share documents and images. There are copies of the Madacorp documents from Lamont's ID along with a chronological summary that helps put the whole story in order. (Good place for beginners to start - there is a lot of info on there.)

The most recent findings for the ARG are under the "Research Progress" section. (See right hand menu on the wiki page.) All are welcome to update and add to the information on the wiki.

There is also a message board, but we use it mainly for PM's, not posts, because it's not owned or operated by Disney/ABC.

Disney/ABC Family doesn't want any EXTERNAL LINKS posted in messages.
Putting a link to a non-Disney/ABC/ABCFamily site in one of your posts can result in the post being edited to remove the link, or the post being deleted entirely, or even the THREAD/TOPIC being deleted.

So be forewarned, players!

However, INTERNAL links are okay to post, including:
  1. threads anywhere on this message board;
  2. pages on any Disney / ABC / ABC Family site;
  3. items on the Madacorp.com, latnoksociety.org, ltdensiu site, or Cooper's Blog (781229.com); or
  4. sites for Disney affiliates

When possible, I've been using search keywords instead of posting the link.

I found information that had been posted on the Latnok and Madacorp sites. I think there was more information, but I'm still searching my old files. I created a thread for Latnok and Madacorp, please add information you may have as well.

A "781229 Search Guide" can be found at 781229.blogspot.com

It guides new players through the game and can be used to research without doing all the brainwork. lol

I noticed a while ago that Cooper's Blog has an RSS Feed for both Comments and Postings. You can find the link in the lower left hand corner. It's easier to read the newish comments using the feed.

You can also subscribe through the same link. That lets you view the feeds right in your browser without opening his site.

The RSS Feeds are spotty; apparently the admins haven't been updating the RSS feeds regularly since Cooper disappeared. I guess that makes it more realistic, right? Wink

On the Latnok Society Help Her page, they mentioned receiving a message written in binary code. Binary code is the use of the numbers 1 and 0 in an eight-character pattern to represent letters and numbers. It is what computers use to "read" characters.

Later on, there were several messages posted in Cooper's comments that were in Base 64, a few even triple-encoded in a combo of various methods. (FYI: our "normal" numeric scheme is Base 10, meaning we use 10 digits for counting, 0-9. Base 64 uses 64 characters; their "10" is represented by the letter "A".)

This is a great translation tool to keep in mind if you see odd collections of letters and numbers that you suspect are encoded that way.

Army: GI Supplies - Stardust Cipher

A tool we've used repeatedly is the Stardust Cipher.

It's named for our own board member, Stardustmelody. She is awesome at letter jumbles and puzzles, managing to figure out some early messages from 781229 that were encoded. This is a complicated character-replacement cipher, which I still can't imagine someone figuring out. When Stardust's in the zone...look out!

A clean image of the encryption/decryption key is on the wiki here:
http://781229.scribblewiki.com/Stardust_Cipher

If you don't want to manually encrypt/decrypt the messages, use this terrific online tool () created esp. for our convenience:

A quick "How To" get the special Flash Video player to watch Cooper's videos without using his site player:

Cooper's videos are stored in a format that normal flash players don't handle. |______| gave us this link:

http://www.download.com/FLV-Player/3000-2139_4-10467081.html?tag=lst-1

What you need to do is copy-and-paste that URL into a browser window. The CNET site download page for the product will come up. (It's a "clean" site for downloads.) Click on "Download Now" and SAVE the file to some folder on your computer. Make sure you remember where you saved it!

After the download completes (took about a minute on DSL) open up "My Computer" or Windows Explorer and find the folder and file you just saved.

Double-click on the file "flvplayer_setup.exe" and it will start the installation. It's pretty big, so make sure you have enough storage.

One of the options is to make this the default player for .flv files. If you check that box (default), you'll be able to save and open any of Cooper's videos from your computer. You can also put in the URL of a video and watch it from the internet.

Several people want to know how to "track down" the videos from Cooper's blogs. It's a little tricky, but not too bad.

o Use your browser to look at one of Cooper's pages where both the video and comments are displayed.

o In Internet Explorer, you can click on the button and select to see the programming code that generates the page. Other browsers have similar "Source Viewing" features - you just have to search in your Help function.

o That code opens in a Notepad window. You can scroll up and down or search. To close the window, just choose .

o The key part is to find the ABC Family server video link - you can search for "feeds/videos?" to get a specific video. The ID# of the video follows the ?" For example:
http://abcfamily.go.com/abcfamily/_global/feeds/videos?id=46057

o Copy the entire link - from http: to the video number.

o Paste that link into a browser and you'll then be brought to the code that sets up the player we see on Cooper's posts.

o Copy the "clip url=" information.
Example: http://wdig.vo.llnwd.net/o2/cngabcfamily/ABCFamily/KyleXY/cooper/CreepyM...

o Paste that URL into a browser window - it's the actual video file.

o A popup will come up asking if you want to open or save the file. Save it somewhere on your computer and REMEMBER where you put it.

o Now you can open the video (if you have the player) and play the video anytime from your computer without using the internet.

This is a lot of steps, but once you get the hang of viewing code, copying the URL's, and pasting into browsers, you're golden.
