Idea that could help bring attention to Kyle XY
Posted Fri, 03/13/2009 - 16:16 — Pablo81092I'm not sure if this has been done or said but I just thought of it so I figured I'd say it.
So what if instead of only focusing on writing letters to ABC Family and other networks what if we wrote to TV Guide? If enough of us wrote them telling our suspicions of how ABCF purposefully did not advertise KXY and basically set the show up to be canceled perhaps we could get an article of some sort in TV Guide Magazine maybe even some sort of special on their channel or both.
This would make more people aware of Kyle's cancelation and put pressure on ABC Family because TV Guide would be making people aware of just how outraged and betrayed fans feel. Correct me if I'm wrong but that is what the media wants isn't it? A good story that could cause some drama. We should use the media to our advantage because right now ABCF can just ignore our letters and such but something like this is less easily ignored. I also believe TV Guide has already written something about the cancelation, this could be like a follow-up. Something like:
KYLE XY DISOWNED BY IT'S "FAMILY": FANS SPEAK OUT
I'll be looking for addresses to write to. If anyone is interested let me know.

Just sent Matt an e-mail. Hope everyone will do the same. I'm off to bed now, man is this campaign tiring, but this show's worth it. Just wish I could stop feeling pissed, and sad every day lately. Thanks a lot ABC Family!

I just sent him an e-mail -- I was trying to make it short enough to read but may seem a bit long:

A lot of KYLE XY viewers are upset right now with ABC Family over the cancelation of the show after its third season. One of the worst things about this is the show is having a premature ending. The season finale to season 3 of KYL:E XY "Bringing Down The House" is a great episode and perfect for ending the season but by no means should it be a series finale. Too many questions will be left open at the end of this episode as a new cliff-hanger was added to the last 20 seconds of this episode. It was never planned by the cast and crew to make this the series finale they were willing to do season 4 if the network allowed it.
Also, season 3 was not as complete a season as was the second season which was extended from 13 episodes to 23. Most people don't know this but ratings likely had no effect on the network's decision to cancel Kyle. I read on Kyle XY.Net forums that in an interivew by Julie Plec one of the lead producers on the series that as of last August when they were wrapping up filming of the third season that they had become aware this might be the last season. By then the season 2 prom finale which had aired in March 2009 was over and season 3 as mentioned which had just finished filming had not even started.
The third season did not even premiere until January 2009. They made us wait a long time in between season 2's prom finale and the season 3 premiere and chose to not do enough promotions for the show. ABC Family promoted KYLE XY Season 3 on their own network, changed the timing to a more inconvenient time for some viewers (9/8 central which was 10PM before Daylight Savings Time started) and lumped the show with Secret Life of the American Teenager -- a show (no offense to its fans) that seems rather pointless and possibly stupid as its all about teen pregnancy.
It seems ABC Family is abandoning its loyal KYLE XY viewers (a wide demographic of teens but mostly adults age 18 and up) to chase other viewers and get ratings by teen girls for shows like Greek where students go to college frat parties to get drunk, and shows where people have sex and girls get pregnant.
So ABC Family wants to give up on KYLE to chase other segments of the audience which are relatively smaller but with the way ratings are calculated have made Secret Life look to be a more highly rated show than Kyle. At the very least they could allow another 10 episodes to wrap up the series and allow the cast and crew to film a proper series finale.
The worst thing about this is they HAVE NOT HAD THE DECENCY AS A NETWORK TO EXPLAIN WHY THEY ARE CANCELING KYLE!
Is it that most KYLE viewers only watch Kyle and so they want to jettison us for viewers who they hope will watch more than one show on their network -- all their other shows though are lame and I won't watch ABC Family after Kyle goes.

I was going to start another thread giving the addresses of all the other critics and reporters who have written articles on the cancellation of Kyle XY so that hopefully at least one of them will go hang on a minute, this show has a really strong fan campaign, and then hopefully they'll get us some publicity.

Raquelborn, this is an awesome idea. Do you mind if I copy this and put it up on the kylexy dot net forums? If enough people sent e-mails, I think this could do us some real good.
No problem! I have made a new thread listing his email with some of the other journalists' on the forums already, titled "People to email: Journalists, Radio Stations and Talk Shows". However I haven't put emphasis on emailing the tvguide so go for it. Also if fans come across that email twice they are more likely to email them.

This is a fabulous idea. Does anybody have any personal connections or know exactly what it would take to get these publications to run an article on the campaign?
I say go for it.
Now wait are you talking about the TV Guide Channel or the TV Guide publication. You may also want to consider EW and/or Variety.
Or the headline could be "Kyle XY not good enough for the new kind of family?"
