Getting twins to put themselves to sleep WITHOUT using CIO..!!

I have twin boys who will 18 months the 28th of this month. We rocked them to sleep since birth and now need to get them to put themselves to sleep at night. They do get a bottle but it DOES NOT go to bed with them. We are not concerned about the bottle. But with a 4 month who is breastfed, having to rock two toddlers to sleep is no fun. Plus it takes two of us and it would be nice if just one of us could put them down. I do not believe in the CIO method. Plus both of our boys will get so upset that it is awful! We have used the same bedtime routine since they were born. We do supper then bath, the bottle and rock to sleep. We like to get the rock to sleep part out. Any advice? Thanks.

i remember there was a little girl i babysat for who had been rocked to sleep since she was born, and i babysat for her when she was about 2...at the time her parents were trying to get the rocking out as well, so they just started putting her in her bed, turning out the light, turning on a toy that made an ocean sound, and leaving the room. it just becomes routine, and she goes to bed fine every night now. sometimes kids need to cry to get to sleep. its ok to let them! they will egt used to it, but if you continuously get them out of their beds, then they will learn that if they cry mom and dad will get them out.
