Posted Thu, 12/18/2008 - 09:02 — kproudmotherHello! I am a 23 year old mother with a 2 1/2 year old. I am married and my husband helps me in anyway that i need around the house. My 2 1/2 yr old little girl NEVER listens. She is talking very little but does understand everything i say to her. My husband and i have tried spanking, time-outs, taking toys and and movies away. nothing seems to work and if we come up with something that does seem to help it only works for a few days then we are back to the same old story! I know my husband and i have a lot ahead of us and a lot to learn as we get older. i have read a lot of the books, been online, and gotten advice from everyone in the family but the screaming and misbehaving will not stop no matter what we do. Please help with any advice at all so we can have a happy family 
I am also a very young mother, i am only 20 soon 21, my daughter is 15 months and is talking enough, and understand everything. However, she listens when she wants to as well. If your daughter is still in her crib I would suggest when she does somthing wrong put her in her crib and leave the room. I kinda force my daughter to listen, if she wont eat and i keep telling her to eat, i will keep her in the chair until she eats. My daughter has a serious problem with wanting to be in the kitchen while I am cooking. So I sit her down in front of the tv with a movie that she really likes and toys and she sits down most of the time, sometimes however she will wonder back into the kitchen and I will just tell her no, firmly, and sit her back down. SHe wines and complains but gets over it.
Perhaps if you divert her attention when you see a pattern of misbehavior starting. If that doesn't work...are you and your husband consistant with the dicipline for your 2 1/2 year old? The child must know how to get over on you two. You have to outlast the child in determination when you are try to enforse your will over hers.
