ABC Family does an actual funny LOL type show, where other sitcoms are crap or are just the random moments of "laugh to yourself in your head" type stuff, and they cancel it. They set this, and Kyle XY up for failure. Both were great shows, but both lacked the ratings. Guess why? Because their demographic is the SAME as Heroes, and yet they put both shows on at the same day and time as Heroes. Some shows would excel as summer series. Kyle XY did the first 1.5 seasons. The only reason the 2nd half of season 2 did so well was because of the strike and all other fall shows were already finished. Roommates would have been the same, a short 13 episode season order would have filled out the schedule from when shows end in spring until they start back up again in the fall. There would be no major network to compete with over demographics like this. This leads me to believe ABC Family just wanted to get rid of Roommates (and Kyle XY) or they'd have given it a fighting chance, tried summer scheduling, or moved it to another night. Saturdays or Sundays even. I believe that if they hadn't aired 4 episodes a night the last two Mondays, since Heroes had their season finale, the ratings might have went up. It's really a shame because these were the only two ABC Family shows I liked
