Official 25 Disappointing Days of Christmas

To help reduce the amount of forum clutter. Lets make this the 25 days of Christmas "complaint board." If you believe that the "25 days of Christmas" is a huge disappointment and delivers NO Christmas classics. Post your comments, complaints, input, and maybe ABC will fix this problem.

Starlight00's picture

I find it sort of strange they decided to add a countdown for a countdown..however, if they are going to do this, why not save all of the more Christmas-y movies until the actual 25 Days of Christmas countdown, and show Harry Potter, Cars, etc. now? They are still fun family movies, but since it is not the official countdown, it's not like people will actually "expect" ABC Family to be showing the more hardcore Christmas movies. It's a little backwards if you ask me, that they show Three Days, Once/Twice upon a Christmas, Snowglobe, etc. now, and then show Harry Potter and other assortments of non-Christmas related movies during the actual line up. What happened? Why do they refuse to show the classics, the same ones they have shown in the past? They were obviously a success...ABC Family, get your programming straight or you'll loose more viewership. Personally, I'm not even that big a fan of Harry Potter but even if I was, I could catch it on at any time on any station. Stop wasting your holiday programming slots on movies we can see all year round, and give them back to movies that are worth watching around Christmas time. And, if you're just going to proceed with this formula, then stop leading your viewers on and scrap the entire 25 Days of Christmas.

ive been reading these boards for a few weeks and finally decided to get an account and state my opinion. they dont listen to the opinions in these boards. They are having ANOTHER Harry Potter weekend DURING the 25 Days of Christmas. Mad I made a schedule of my favorite shows and movies on during the 25 Days so I can dvr them. An entire weekend is interrupted by Harry Potter. And don't get me wrong, I love Harry Potter, but I want to watch movies like the Grinch (which might I add is not being shown this year) and the claymations I grew up with.
How about the fact that there's a countdown to a countdown to Christmas? And that it starts November 10th, when everyone should be thinking about Thanksgiving. Ridiculous.

SeXyIsLaNdBeBe's picture

they should play movies like deck the halls and or christmas with the cranks or santa claus 1,2 n wat eva n way more stuff not harry potter or cars or narnia (anyways that movies hecca old n ppl are gettin tired of it) Mad

SeXyIsLaNdBeBe's picture

i agree with these ppl even though i dnt kno them but any ways yeh its called 25 days of christmas not not 20 says of thanks giving isnt the show supoose to startd december 1st not november 10th its never been like that.wtf they should put movies like white christmas or a christmas carol or sum other stuff but not cars , the incredables wtf how does that connect to christmas ? Mad

christmas87's picture

soo with no response from any of the abc family team im assuming they havent looked at the forums or isnt going to put christmas everyday on the schedule this year??

shawna47960's picture

Guys...this schedule is the COUNTDOWN TO THE 25 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS!! So hopefully after these, they will start showing all of the more Christmas oriented movies.

christmas87's picture

this is a pretty good schedule from recent years.they are plaing more christmas movies just left out a couple that should have been on it.

ndcl's picture

What schedule is everyone looking at?? Yes, they are playing Cars, Ratatouille, The Incredibles, etc. But they are also playing over 15 of their original movies (including some new ones) and even more holiday movies (The Polar Express, Santa Clause, Miracle on 34th Street.) They even have classics marathons! They are playing A Miser Brother's Christmas, Rudolphs's Shiny New Year; a lot of the good classics. They have a few holiday movie marathons! Those non-Christmas movies take up 2 hours out of only 3 or 4 days in the entire schedule! There are a couple movies I miss seeing on the schedule, but ABC Family has given us more than enough good Christmas programming in this schedule!

christmas87's picture

does any abc family people look at these forums??..if they dont wanna put certain movies on the 25 days atleast put it on the countdown.

christmascandy30's picture

Mad Just checked out the schedule...it's 'better' than last year, but not by much. Did ABC Family NOT listen to the viewers? WE DO NOT WANT HARRY POTTER, CARS, INCREDIABLES, NARNIA, etc...at Christmas time. Show 'em Dec 26th - Oct 15th or something. If you ask me, Harry Potter is more suited for THE 13 NIGHTS of HALLOWEEN!!! I'm very disappointed again this year. I will most likely be watching more of the Hallmark & Lifetime channels this year. Sorry ABC Fam...you blew it...AGAIN!! Mad

SeXyIsLaNdBeBe's picture

now thats wat im talkin bout

christmas87's picture

i made a post earlier about something but now that i see this ill post it in here...i saw the schedule for this year and again they took off the movie christmas everyday.last year or two years ago they didnt have it on the schedule and i made a post about it and almost everybody on the board agreed that they should put it back on.and they did.so i dont understnad why they would not put it on the schedule this year again.i think alot of movies that dont belong on there should be taken off soo more old movies that people actually like get put on there...but all im saying is that christmas everyday should be put on the schedule even if its one time so it can be recorded or something.

Applex3's picture

I love Christmas! and always look forward to 25 days of christmas each year but last year i was disappointed. Cars and the Incredibles are NOT Christmas movies. It was very unfortunate when they kept playing these movies weekend after weekend when they have nothing to do with Christmas. I love the Christmas classics and i look forward to them every year. I remember when 25 days of christmas was christmas everthing and i miss that. They rarely showed Eloise at Christmas time which is such a good movie. I also remember when they showed the Christmas episodes of the TV shows like full house. Last year they didn't do that. Its time ABC Family put the Christmas back in 25 Days of Christmas.

We need to do sometin about this, i mean cars, aladdin, tarzan, cronicle of narnia, harry potter are good movies, but they arent christmas movies. all ABC has done is make 99% of the viewers super mad at them for putting these4 non christmas related movies up on here :/ and another thing, i likeD harry potter, until AbC family started playing them like 2 weekends EVERYm onth. so i think i get enough of him during the year :\ No comment

Sad i too am upset. I can't believe all the classics were taken out and put in with lousy things that have nothing to do with Christmas!what does Harry Potter have to do with Christmas! Please have the classics like A Year Without A Santa Claus and A Miser Brothers Christmas be let on. There are a ton of others too! Why? Why did you put such bad things on television! THE HOLIDAY SPIRIT WILL NOT BE THE SAME WITHOUT THE CLASSICS!

dr0manning0's picture

okay i know its only oct. 25 but i saw this and all of you are right/ harry potter, cars, the incredibles, charlie and the chocolate factory, and narnia have nothing to do with christmas except for maybe the one or two minutes in narnia and harry potter. PLEASE change this i dont want to watch any of these i want to watch the grinch, rudolph, all the old claymation movies, frosty, charlie brown, a christmas story, ect... please abc family for the sake of christmas time television programming please start adding good movies or add a comment box on november first on your site where people can comment on what movies they would like to see then come december first everyone is happy. so please no more crappy harry potter or incredibles please just good christmas movies... real christmas movies! not many people have the money to go and buy a lot of christmas dvds in these economical times so people tune in to you so please change your christmas programming.

sorry for adding in october hahaha

truth51's picture

i agree harry potter and car have nothing to do with Christmas what are you guys thinking up there at ABC family. Its called 25 days of Christmas. Key word Christmas, you know that time of year when family come together. keep harry potter and cars out of the lineup and run CHRISTMAS movies, shows, cartoons, etc. The shows that are all about Christmas. Lets get it right this year ABC family.

Emma Trofholz's picture

OMG...I totally agree with you!!! I remember all those claymations, frosty, rudolph, the California raisins, muppets, the grinch and so on! I wish that is what ABC would show! I want to look forward to 25 days of Christmas this year! I have nieces that don't know those Christmas shows and those are some AMAZING classics!!! I don't mind the new Grinch with Jim Carrey and Christmas with the Kranks. Those are the type of shows on top of the classics to be showing rather than the Harry Potter. Hopefully ABC will hear us out! I totally agree with having some type of comment box so we can name a few shows that would be fun to see again! Fingers Crossed....I love 25 days of Christmas, lets hope it's a good one!

I'm starting to feel like ABC Family Staff doesn't care what we want! They haven't responded to ANY of our comments and concerns. What is up with that? I have just resigned to the fact that the movies and shows that will probably be shown during the 25 days will most likely be NON HOLIDAY/CHRISTMAS related stuff and I have all my DVD's ready for my little girls to watch. I hear a lot of people talking about Hallmark and Lifetime Christmas shows...what kind of stuff do they show? I wanna hear about it!

lilred21's picture

Hallmark and Lifetime do show more Christmas movies than what abc family does.

Butterflykisses_76's picture

They show Christmas themed movies. Not Harry Potter or Cars or anything like that. They have great movie specials...like Abc Family used to until they started throwing in non-Christmas movies like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and such.

jewlzzh's picture

I agree with everyone else...Cars, Harry Potter, The Incredibles and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory are NOT what I want to sit around watching on the exciting days leading up to Christmas Day!! Play those any other time of the year. Who in the world thought that was a good idea, people?!?!?!

Mad I love watching abc family during the 25 days of christmas but last year was a dissapointment...instead of showing more christmas time movies such as snow or a christmas in boston i would see things like cars or harry potter. dont get me wrong i like those movies, but during christmas time i would much rather see CHRISTMAS movies!!! I love when you guys show the new christmas movies that are made just for the christmas holiday. more movies like the christmas list, christmas in boston, holiday in handcuff, snowglobe and the cartoons like santa claus is coming to town and frosty and even nester are good to show too...it used to be i would come home from work and do my last minute errands before 8pm just so i could sit and relax when 8pm came and i was able to watch a CHRISTMAS themed movie and not a movie like charlie and the chocalate factory or the incrediables. i want to watch CHRISTMAS movies during CHRISTMAS time and not a movie that i can watch at any time during the year! come on guys get with the CHRISTMAS program and show CHRISTMAS movies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Butterflykisses_76's picture

I agree. I always look forward to this time of year because I LOVE watching Christmas movies. I am excited to see the new movies that will be premiering like Santa Baby 2 etc but I am so disappointed that my favorite Three Days seems to have been cut. I've bought a few of my favs like Three Days from ioffer.com (they have tons!) so I can still view it whenever I want.

viva423's picture

First I want to thank ABC Family for doing the 25 Days of Christmas, and adding some favorites back into the lineup, but I am also disappointed with some of the other selections. The past few years I have sent messages about how the 25 Days of Christmas lineup have been very dissappointing. I went from making it a point to get home to watch 25 Days of Christmas so I didn't miss any favorites, to having to purchase them so that I could make sure I actually got to see the movies since ABC Family keeps playing non Christmas movies. The schedule is also awful, ABC Family used to post a highlights schedule of the major Christmas movies and what day and time they played as well as the detailed schedule for everyday of the movies that aren't classics, but are still fun to watch. I know you can view a day by day schedule online, but there was the option to print the full schedule so that I could plan Christmas activities around the movies I wanted to see. I also feel like some days have almost no shows on in general. Another good not, I LOVE how you can watch some of the ABC Family Originals movies online, but I think they should be in the TV lineup. I would definitely stay in to watch some of those movies at 24 years old. PLEASE take everyone's thoughts into consideration, and I will submit a list of movies that should be played (and have been in the past) which is why I USED to turn to ABC Family every year before.

popeyedawg's picture

Ditto!! I can almost ....ALMOST understand when you guys started showing Harry Potter AD NAUSEUM last year, at least there was a 2 minute reference to christmas in each movie, but c'mon!!!! Charlie and the chocolate factory???? what is that about?? THe ads for the big guy in red and then showing Mr Incredible??? dude.....commercialism and self promotion turn people off. Mr Incredible is not anyone's idea of the holiday season and Cars..... hang your heads in shame and fire the person responsible for turning this season's lineup into the most pathetic and disappointing ever. Emmit Otter would be awesome. So would the Gathering, Scrooge, Annabelle's Wish, Little Drummer Boy, hell, ANYTHING that's really Christmas! But as others said, put Harry Potter and the other "regular" shows on during regular times of the year and put "CHRISTMAS" shows on during the "CHRISTMAS" SEASON.....PLEASE!!

musicbizgrl's picture

First, I want to thank ABC Family for bringing Garfield's Christmas Special and Mickey's Christmas Carol back to television!!

Now, I love Harry Potter and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to no end--but I can watch them any time. Christmas is supposed to be when you can see those specials that you can't otherwise see. You guys used to be the best, but now it's more like "A Few Hours of Christmas thrown in among our big movie specials". I understand, premiering these movies is a big deal, but do you have to do it when you could be showing Christmas specials??

Next year, please KEEP Garfield and Mickey's Christmas Carol, and please bring back The Stingiest Man in Town, and if you need premieres, can you not get Emett Otter's Jugband Christmas and Muppet Family Christmas and Muppet Christmas Carol and show more of the Rankin-Bass on a regular basis??

You have all year to show Harry Potter and Charlie, and Pixar films...please don't take up the 25 Days of Christmas space to do it...

PS. I do LOVE the Jim Carrey version of "Grinch" because you guys put the deleted scenes back in, so that one is fine by me!!

jediliz's picture

Stop showing The Jim Carrey Grinch movie and show the classic animated special that's narrated by Boris Karloff. It's MUCH better.

And Please air Christmas List more than once and at a more REASONABLE time than 6:00 AM on the 23rd.

Polar Express is perfect for Christmas Eve night.

lilmic1970's picture

my son and i watch the 25 days of Christmas every year and i missed the miser brothers movie both times do u know if it is going to come on any more even though the line up says not. Also, does anyone know the name of the Christmas cartoon that has an elk in it and his search for an immortal blanket?? we cant figure it out. Help????

I sure hope they put it back on!

STOP showing Harry Potter!!! Please!!!! I don't need to see Cars or The incredibles again either. SHOW more often The Christmas List and The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus. Please continue showing Santa Baby, Snowglobe and Holiday in Handcuffs. Maybe add The Gathering to the lineup. I have been spending more of time on Hallmark and Lifetime this year.

Every year I look forward to the 25 Days of Christmas on ABC Family. They always have the best shows and movies that you don't see on most other channels. However, this year I am completely disgusted with it. There has not been ONE decent cartoon or movie worth watching! Where is Rudolph, Frosty and the original Grinch CARTOON? I'd like to know whose idea was it to put on movies like Cars and Harry Potter that have nothing to do with Christmas. It was a HUGE mistake!

otter0127's picture

Too bad the 25 Days of Christmas has been the 25 Days of HUH? Like the others, I am quite disappointed in not being able to watch my favorite Christmas shows. I love to cry while I watch them, not because I can't watch them at all. I have always depended on ABC Family for the best and most continuous showing of all the old favorites and even some new shows. But this year all I've seen are movies that have nothing to do with Christmas, other than perhaps as presents in the form of DVD's. Please have a surprise showing next week of movies like Borrowed Hearts, The Christmas List, How the Grinch Stole Christmas (cartoon version please), The Muppets Christmas Carol, Emmett Otter's Jug Band Christmas, some of the shows that haven't been on for years! Something like it used to be.

BlueChristmas08's picture

I so agree with this years line up and it makes me feel like this Crying Crying Crying Crying Crying Crying Crying I was so looking forward to a lot of good christmas shows like the ones I' ve seen before and that's been about three to four years ago.

Mechconstrictor's picture

I also agree with this. I grew up watching these shows and I look forward to them every year. Last years line up was okay, but this one is even worse. Show's like The Life and Adventures of Santa Clause is one of my favorite, along with all the other ones from that period. I'm disappointed in ABC family. The rest of my family and friends are saying the same thing. The shows that you are showing have nothing to do with Christmas.

mollymariexo33's picture

i was tthinking the same for the past 5 years! what ever happened to classic christmas shows! they are the good ones. the incredibles, cars, chronicles of narnia, harry potter?! what do they have to do with christmas. i have sent abc emails about their disappointing choices and i hope they read them. maybe you could use the movies i listed above in the 25 days countdown. i dont care, just please let us see the classic movies we want more often

Julie5478's picture

I really do agree. I don't understand why they show those movies like cars, harry potter, and the incredibles. I also absolutely can not stand the movies that abc makes like christmas in handcuffs and snow. Why can't they show what they used to when i was growing up that i loved even when i was older. Like the cheesy miser brothers (not the remake), rudolph, frosty the snowman, the drummer boy, the clay animated ones. They may be silly but they remind me of my childhood and are cute? What ever happened to that? I loved them and i can never find them anywhere else?

I am 100% in agreement.. I said the same about last year and it's worse this year than ever! What do Harry Potter, Cars, and the Nardia stuff have to do with Christmas?!? 25 Days of Christmas?? Right, more like 25 days of crap. Forget ABC Family.. You just lost a viewer.. I'm going to my DVD's and other stations like Hallmark that actually show Christmas movies...

rankinbassfan's picture

Ok, the 25 days of Christmas Scheduling needs to get back to its roots.
No more Harry Potter, Cars, and other Non Holiday Stuff. Who here agrees with me?

Question for ABC Family staff?
Almost everyone that tunes in to ABC family 25 days of Christmas does it for the Rankin Bass Specials and does not care about non Holiday Stuff. Why are you not showing 3 of the Rankin Bass Specials that you only you have the rights to show?
1)Cricket on the Hearth 2)The Stingiest Man in Town 3) A Christmas Tree

Why not at least slot a day where you show all of the specials that ABC family has the rights to.
You could either schedule according to or release date, or group the sequels together(which you already do to a certain degree). Thanks for at least picking up the New Miser Brothers Special.

Now about next year down with Harry Potter and Company and bring back what we want and that is more Rankin/Bass Productions.

Hi chipps125 and all,

We do hear you and we read these boards. We'll post a suggestions stickie at the top of this forum in a few days and get your suggestions for next year.

Thanks for your feedback.

I have to agree with everyone - terrible terrible scheduling. ABC Family needs to save $ by firing the programming department. Nickelodean used to have a 'viewer vote' week - where the viewers made up the schedule by voting for choices on the website of what they want to see. Worked out great! Maybe do that next year. All november, let us vote for shows we want to see in the 25 days of Christmas. Then you know we'll tune in - you;ll be happy and the sponsors will be too. Scrap these non-Christmas shows just because you were dumb and bought the rights to show them and you're stuck.

I am glad to hear I'm not the only one disappointed this year. The Chronicles of Narnia?...Harry Potter weekend??? ...Cars??...The Incredibles??...The Notebook??...and Mary Poppins??? Crying What do these shows have to do w/ Christmas? We've been looking very forward to the 25 days of Christmas, only to be let-down.
Show more of the classics and the cheesy ABC family premiere events like "Holiday in Handcuffs", "Snow", and "Santa Baby". People like those shows.
I was glad to see the children's Christmas programs starting at 7pm this week. Most little ones aren't up until 9pm to enjoy them.
I hope ABC Family gets their act together for next year!

Runngurl's picture

I agree with the postings questioning the line up for 25 days of Christmas. Most of the movies that started out on ABC Family can now be seen on Lifetime and Hall Mark Channel. My daughters and I use to looked forward to spending Saturday and Sunday afternoons watching the classic Christmas movies, we're still trying to make the connection to Christmas with - The Chronicles of Narnia, Harry Potter, Cars, The Incredibles, the list can go on and on but I'll stop there.

I understand that the economy is bad but the programming that ABC Family has placed before us is worse than the economy. Maybe they need to go before Congress and ask them for a bailout plan to their recent 25 days of Christmas line up.

BabyIsaac's picture

I completely agree with everyone else. I love this time of year because normally they show all those made for TV Christmas movies that are so sappy and you love them because of it. This year they keep showing other stuff like Harry Potter. Don't get me wrong, I still love Harry Potter, but not for Christmas. I have been watching the Christmas movies this year on Lifetime and Hallmark instead of ABC Family.
